You most be getting enough sleep. You sound positively chipper. Maybe just from all the scratchery. Some excellent work. PaulE

Morning all,

t62-037_2020-3-30.jpg
t62-038_2020-3-30.jpg
due to the right side of the mantlet aperture having wandered offline I needed to strip it all down

t62-039_2020-3-30.jpg
made some new side pieces and started building it back up

t62-034_2020-3-30.jpg
rebuilding the aperture in the correct place - the left side was ok but the right side had to move 1mm to the left

As you can see there was not much left to fasten the side plate to after chopping it all apart

t62-033_2020-3-30.jpg
but it went well and came back together - much happier with it this time

t62-036_2020-3-30.jpg
new dust cover

t62-035_2020-3-30.jpg
i also added some new bolt tops around the cupolas as the kit ones were a bit vague

unfortunately the red goo suffered from the handling and various bits are now bald, plus of course the revised mantlet area needs re-coating as well

once done I shall prime the entire thing with Halford primer - this should hopefully help to keep the red goo in place for casting

I also reworked one of the fuel tanks but don't appear to have taken a photo

The tanks are all a bit wide due to them being moulded with very sloping sides so I sanded them down to make them more vertical again

This of course removed the moulded seam line around the middle so this had to be replicated with some micro strip

Fuel tank now ready to be cast

Hull front filler also sanded down ready for building up the details again

the cast texture may be a little heavy in places but could always be sanded a little on the resin version if i decide i don't like it so i think it is ready for casting now

I seem to recall 453 referring to potions and Nostrims of bat wings, frog legs and other surrealistic remedies for such things as this.

Thank you all

Having looked at it again I decided to tone down the texture a little more then mounted it on a support for casting

I also added some small fillets for the pins on the side of the cupola ring to help them cast

t62-045_2020-4-1.jpg
adjusted fuel tank with new fill and drain caps - will need to cast a few of these off so it is sat on a lump of 2mm plastic card

t62-047_2020-4-1.jpg
the kit wheel rims are a bit wishy washy so I made some new ones to give a better defined edge

Hi Simon
Very impressed with your skill and attention to detail. Good luck with the casting. You'll need a fair bit of rubber and resin.

Steve - yes, compass cutting but only 15thou card so no sore fingers

Jim - cheers. Yes it will need a few grams of resin

finished distressing the tyres on the last six wheels

t62-048_2020-4-2.jpg
t62-050_2020-4-2.jpg
then filled the old motorisation holes where the final drive housings should be

Tamiya provide a stub axle with a block that fits into the motorisation hole but it is just a blanking plate and has nothing to do with the real tank so this was cut down to just leave the stub axle

The holes in the hull were then plated from the back and the fronts built up with scraps of plastic card and green stuff
