Morning all,

this is one that I started way back in 2016 on the site that shall not be named :surprised:

I have gradually been chipping away at it every now and then and it is now almost ready to hit the spray booth

As usual it needed a little work to improve things

icm222-003_2016-11-29.JPG
exhaust silencers wrapped with pewter to form proper lipped ends, new tailpipes from aluminium wire drilled out

icm222-004_2016-11-29.JPG
catches added to rear hatches

icm222-005_2016-11-29.JPG
cover added to spare wheel - this has since been added to with Duro to give a sagged effect

icm222-007_2016-11-29.JPG
the wishy washy details removed from the stowage cupboards and replaced with Historex buckles
Pewter brackets added, wire step

icm222-008_2016-11-29.JPG
shovel got some mountings

icm222-009_2016-11-29.JPG
the worst part of the kit is the turret - for some reason ICM chose to mould it with an odd semi solid inside

that was all carefully pared away to just leave the angled armour plates. A new 'floor' edging and turret ring were created from plastic card

icm222-010_2016-11-29.JPG
the new bits from underneath

icm222-011_2016-11-29.JPG
as a result of the poor turret moulding the gun mount suffered from lack of detail and over simplification so the kit parts were discarded and a new mount created

icm222-012_2016-11-29.JPG
the basic mount being tested with the corrected turret

icm222-014_2016-11-29.JPG
the kit comes with a small etch fret that provides the rear half of the upper deck and the turret anti grenade screens

icm222-015_2016-11-30.JPG
turret internals progressing

icm222-016_2016-12-02.JPG
and a bit further......

all gradually built up using references

it has actually progressed a lot from this point but because it has been done in small doses over time I haven't any further photos

it now has extensive stowage and more details added.

Just needs width poles for the front wings and a radio aerial mount on the turret rear and I think it will be ready for paint

Up to date photos will be added later today

Morning Tim - thanks. One of my favourites as well - I have made a few over the years.

Currently have a 222 and a 223 in pre-production parts clean-up in 35th plus about six more in the stash

Morning Mr T,

I think I remember this one, didn’t you scratch an interior for it, Or was that another one?
Either way....you have my attention :smiling4:.

I’ve built two 222’s in different scales and have a Tamiya 223 in the stash....it’s a great looking vehicle in my eyes:cool:

Hi Simon
Stunning improvements. So much already done that it deserves to be finished.

Just excellent work. Glad to see you finishing this one. Didn't the loader have a chair too, or was that a later version? PaulE

Hi Simon
Looks great. Are we going to run a book on how many bits get knocked off in the painting. It sure looks super fragile!

Funnily enough, I had looked at the picture and thought...”I’d probably knock them delicate bits right off”.
Hope you can get it through the paint in one piece Simon!! :surprised:

Paul - I think he just got a small round pad low down on the side of the gun mount, almost on the floor, with a flip down triangular seat above hanging off the turret ring for the commander. All very cramped

Jim/Si - I’m sure I can manage to knock something off it

There we go, missing seats added but may have to break them off later if I try getting a figure in as there really isn’t a lot of room in there

It shall be named - Military Modelling website and yes I remember this one . Stunning detailing as always. I am amazed you managed to get a coat of primer on in this heat. Are you going to leave us in suspense?? Is it going to be Panzergrau, Dunkelgelb, Gelbraun or Sandgelb??

Probably

Some kind of generic sand colour - I have an AK modulation set to try out and all kinds of new weathering potions

It will more than likely still turn out crap as I suspect a huge dollop of talent is also required and that appears to be about the only thing AK/Ammo/MIG don’t sell

Morning all, got some paint on it last night

The AK modulation set consists of six bottles graduated from a dark brown to almost white and isn't really any different to how I usually paint except of course the shades are pre-mixed so it should be easier to get consistent results

It sprayed quite well just straight from the bottle with no dilution needed - sprayed better than VJ but not as good as Tamiya I would say but of course there was less messing about due to not having to mix my own shades

Colours in the photos are a bit off as the lighting was not the best but the weathering will change things anyway

I think the next step is to varnish the lot and leave to set before trying the filters, washes, oil brushers, powders and all the other new fangled potions that I am trying out for the first time

Simon,
Looking good you can just see the modulation in the pictures. I still prefer to make my own but there again I am a tight arse :tongue-out3:
