Jim - the mask looked good but didn't really work in practice. I actually ended up brush painting the patterns.

before starting working yesterday morning I applied a layer of migAmmo filter for three tone camo - basically a posh name for brown - and left it to dry all day

last night I applied 'filth' to the insides and a wash of brown for german yellow on the outside - again posh names for brown. Hmm, i think there is a pattern to these migAmmo potions - they are really all just brown with different names applied to the bottles

left it to dry for a couple of hours then wiped most of it off again with little foam make-up sponge sticks and odourless thinners

this is the result so far

Looks like the various snake oils have worked pretty well Si- the beast is looking like a cover photo for a Mig box of filters! I especially like the ambush camo you’ve done too (Yes, it is that Smiffy, btw)

That migAmmo stuff has worked nicely. 50 shades of brown . Is it enamel based? The mask did look the part. Was the problem getting it in contact with the surface? Shame how sometimes good ideas don't actually work. I once bought some wood grain decals at a show - should have spent my money on another cup of coffee or ten Hope the rocket mould works ok.

Well, the GB end has come and gone again and of course this isn't finished

Jim - having shelled out for all these mig/AK potions you're right, I could have just got a gallon of brown instead Yes they are enamel. The good thing is they can be used over the acrylics without damaging them - you liberally splash them on all over then use odourless thinner to remove a lot of it again. Part of the problem was getting the paint to spray - I should have tried with Tamiya instead. It worked in a couple of places. I did have trouble getting it to stay stuck down as well which didn't help. Definitely user error rather than the stencil

Steve - that's the extent of the interior work. Not much can be seen once the upper hull goes on

went around and highlighted the spotty bits using the highlight from the modulation set


attacked the tracks with dark, medium and light rust potions from AK


I think they are looking nicely rusted and metallic

I see the ammunition has gone in okay. Coming along nicely

engine finally painted

panzer grey mixed with smoke

ancillaries painted with a lighter grey

pipes and hose clips picked out in black or flat aluminium

air filter tops dry brushed white

whole thing then got blue for german grey followed with engine grime


fans painted flat aluminium then engine grimed


drive teeth rubbed with polished metal pigment


the first track

the inside running faces were coated in polished metal pigment applied with one of the small foam make-up brush

outside had some light dust rubbed in

I used odourless thinner to fix everything - it dulled down the polished metal nicely to a burnished metal colour

tinkered a bit more with this one - it looked ok to the eye but having seen the photos I think it needs a little more blending of the dirt streaks
