Hi Ron
Looking good. Certainly mastered the brush painting. Must say though I found the no11 silver nice. Looking very pretty now - not you the model!

Quiet old build this one... Not to worry.

Here's the aircraft ready for decals. Once I've applied them I will give the model a final touch up where I've missed some painting etc. I've left the tank seams as I figured they would be on the real thing. Right or wrong that's how they will have to stay.

...and the odd wayward seam!

Well the silver looks proper, better than the dirty grey/blue of the faulty pot that's for sure!

And I agree with you on the tank seams, they look like they should be there.

Thanks boys.
I've contacted Airfix to try and get the right decals for the paint scheme.
They sent an automated reply. It will be at least 28 days for them to respond, let alone to decide whether to send me a poxy decal sheet or not....Pathetic!

Nice hairy stick job Ron. Good thing you decided on the new pot of paint. The paint will now have a long cure time while waiting for the decals. Let's hope that Airfix responds faster.

Cheers,
Richard

I've left the tank seams as I figured they would be on the real thing.
They were, as this well-known photo shows clearly:

Very nice Mustang Ron!
Interesting mix of hard and soft edges on the paintwork in that photo. I'll try to remember that when the animal antics GB starts in October.

Hi

I got new decals from Airfix in just over a week. ~(UK) I've actually not used them yet so if you get desperate send me a PM.

The tank seams protrude from the tanks - the kit ones seem (!) to be recessed - I simply added a length of stretched sprue around the outside to emulate the seam.

Regards

Mark

Thanks Mark. I'm in no hurry, so I'll see how Airfix performs first.
Thanks also for the suggestion re. the tank seams, but I'm afraid such a fix is way, way beyond my skill level.

Hopefully some good news....
I've received an email from Airfix. The correct decals are in the post! So much for their 28 days to respond to my request. Probably an automated response.

Excellent customer service - If it's true. Which I have no reason to believe otherwise. I will update this thread when they arrive.

The finished model is over in Aircraft Completed.
Thanks for you support and suggestions along the way.

Cheers.

The correct decals arrived within a week of my request, so top marks to Airfix!

I've finally finished my Mustang.
I'm on my way to post the model over in 'aircraft completed'

Thanks for all your most excellent contributions during the build.

Ron
