Takom 1/16 Chinese army Type 94 Tankette

Building Takoms 1/16 type 94 tankette, In 1/16th scale its not that big at all - 18cm long. This edition comes with a superbly sculpted resin figure made up of 4 parts - torso, head and separate arms. The figure requires no clean up at all and fits together like a glove, prehaps based on this photo;



The strange thing is the box art shows the tracks with some sag, but the tracks supplied are rubber band types, which is fine but virtually impossible; then checking the net and the model included in the box is correct as the version built has no track sag;

The first four stages cover the construction of the road wheels and bogies. The kit provides full working suspension which is rather neat;

This looks good Steve. Have often thought of having a go at 1/16 armour.

That photo appears to be of the vehicle in Japanese service, when your box top shows it’s a Communist Chinese (captured from the Japanese) tank

Chances are both are correct. The vehicle in the side-on photo isn’t on level ground but a bit of a curve, which would put more tension on the track than on flat terrain; granted, it doesn’t seem to be much, but a vehicle with well-tensioned tracks on that curved ground may just give the impression of completely taut track. The one in the first photo could also be one in bad need of track tensioning.

Got the rear plate on, no real issues, just a swipe of filler on the rear (suspension spring);



Left fender added, again just a bit of filler needed, also on the jack.



The roof, is an incredibly tight fit, kept popping out. Glad i followed the advice on youtube and glued it on before adding the second fender




The excellent resin figure, only 4 parts - no clean up and will not need any filler, face sketched in, will paint this over in the figure forum - here

Added the right side fender, I was thinking of painting and weathering the exhaust and muffler off the tank and add later, but the exhaust box needs to sit over the pipe, dont want bits of the vehicle to paint and add later.
After the glue dried, i suddenly thought i cut could have cut the pipe (circled in red) then added it later;



But then, if anyone checked underneath you would see the exhaust outlets missing. So i will paint and weather on the tank with brushes.

Bit of a quirk in the instructions, step 17 gets you to add the hinges for one of the hatches, but only mentions A3 once, but you need two, even though it looks like its already part of the mould;

So, primed in Tamiya grey, from the rattle can and then coated in Tamiya rubber black, then for a change thought i would give a marble coat a try, as the final colour is just a single colour of 'NATO green'. so Tamiya white and light brown, were sprayed on in squiggles and patches (12-14psi, and airbrush close to the surface), first attempt so pretty happy with the result, top coat next and if it doesnt look right, will just spray the pre colouring out;

Weathering has started - chipping with Tamiya cockpit green and Vallejo Model Air German red brown;



Next will be rust, rain and dust washes
