Tim’s Trumpeter KV-7 in 1/35

Hi all
Here’s my entry….
The Trumpeter KV-7, marking my first large scale complete tank build since about 2016.
As always, we’ll start with the box art


Quite a plain looking beastie….

Colour call outs. To be honest, there are no decals and it only comes in 4BO, so they could have just said “paint it green” LOL.


Looks like it’s been on the shelf a while, but it’s probably only been through the moulding process once, being a one-off vehicle.


…and…I didn’t have any 4BO, and the shop had this, so it fell into my hands….

I will probably start the build process on Sunday….the lawnies are nearly done, but if I stop working them I probably won’t get back on the paintbrushes…..

Thanks Steve. Looks quite a plain beast, to be honest. Painting will probably make or break this one! Can’t really go for anything but 4BO so no winter camouflage option….

That does look a nice kit. Pretty high parts count. It will be interesting to see how that modulation colour set works out. Should make a big difference on a "paint it green" tank.

i thought the parts count was a bit low myself, but then it’s a plain old beast. Like the look of the link and length tracks though, best of both worlds. I’m hoping the paint works out. Usually I just mix the appropriate colour from Tamiya paint, but these didn’t break the bank, and I like Mr Color because it sprays so well (watch me have all sorts of problems now). Might go in for a moderate amount of streaking, but it certainly won’t be overdone as this was only used in trials when showing off for uncle Joe.

Great model it will makeTim , you could do snow snow around it as this photos shows. Probably where they got the idea for the box art from.

That’s from the trials John, they took place in December, which is pretty cold in the USSR That picture also shows a couple of errors in the kit already though
The kit has continuous fenders, whereas there’s a definite gap under the casemate. The photo also shows added armour on the front of the casemate that isn’t there on the kit…..I need to see if these were later additions, but I doubt they are so I’ll have to sort them out
A bit of a weird one that I have found out though. Apparently it was supposed to volley fire the three guns, not fire them individually. What a strange concept!

Thanks Graham, it is very unusual in its designed form. A volley gun on tracks no less! I’ll try not to disappoint you LOL…

Hi all
Here’s an update on the tracked volley gun….


Not much to show, but it was a fun day. I’m still adjusting to the size change. This thing seems enormous



Pretty good build so far. A little bit of flash, but nothing too onerous. However, there were a couple of minor issues as follows. I’ll post the info in case anyone else comes across them in the KV series from Trumpeter;

First up, Section three…
The lifting eyes (parts A28) do not need to be added to the rear deck. They are already moulded on so I simply drilled them out with a 0.5mm drill in a pin vice.

Part V3 doesn’t fit as made. The front locating pin is too far toward, so I cut it off.

Part V14, appliqué armour, doesn’t locate on part V3 as the left hand slot is missing. Again, I cut it off. To make sure I got it central I then added part A17 from section five and just used that to centralise the plate on the glacis.

Section four…
Part V3 (as indicated on the instructions) is actually part V4.
The best order for the rear plates is A11, then V9, and then V4. The rear light lens (S1) is best fitted after painting. Saves on masking.

Thats as far as I’ve got so far….I’m hoping to do the rest of section four and move on today!

Finding them as I go along Gerry. The kit is good, but the instructions seem a bit like an afterthought…perhaps this was just produced to get a few more uses out of the moulds?

I'd probably find the awkward bits after the glue's set
