As many know or not i mainly do wood models, but I'm now I've almost finished my first figure and want to know whether to varnish or not. I've painted with Vallejo Model Color and Air with a bit of a wash again Vallejo should I varnish it, it won't get handled much except for dusting, have tried Vallejo before but it came out grainy, what did I do wrong, is there a better varnish to use, have got a matt Tamiya varnish but never used it, advice needed to best one and how to use.

I think Mark as they say it is in the eye of the beholder. I always give a coat of varnish matt or satin. Just gives a lift

Varnish. The best for me is Vallejo. But not well known for some reason they do a mixture Polyurthene/Acrylic which gives a very nice finish. No problems at all.

I use Vallejo air and varnish all my models with Vallejo Mecha gloss prior to decals, then whatever desired finished for the final finish, again Vallejo Mecha Matt or satin.

It sprays directly from the bottle and I've had no issues at all.
