Splendid work old boy. I've just noticed. Your sliding canopy is in two parts, which is good news. It's a single piece in the 1:48 scale, not such good news.

I prefer the all in one type colin , i think this method gives a messy joint when trying to glue the clear part to the plastic , similarly the windscreen part is just the glass , no bottom frame so again a difficult joint to do cleanly - its the only part of this kit that lets it down a bit .

Tony looks very nice and it’s going to be different than any Mustangs I’ve seen can’t wait to see what those decals are going to look like on you model.

Went to put the decals on today and straight away came upon a problem . The aftermarket sheet has lots of stars and bars in different sizes BUT …. The 4 that I needed for the wings ( about 26 mm) , the sheet only had three !? The same went for the fuselage ones ( about 30 mm) but obviously I only need two of those . Why only put an odd number on the sheet , if four are needed for the top and bottom of the wings youre screwed. So the spare decal stash was rummaged through and i found a couple of about the same size but a bit chunkier and brighter in colour . These were used for under the wings . Youre never going to see the top and bottom of the wings at the same time so the difference doesnt matter.
I wanted to do aircraft no 3302 as in the picture but again the decal sheet didnt provide enough numbers to have any duplication , plus even the smallest numbers were a bit big so the stash was used again and aircraft no 03 was chosen instead .
The few decals are now settling down , I’ll have a look tomorrow to see if they need any solvent . E2388C91-7154-4F68-900C-5BC658ACBE77.jpegD95183DF-FD52-465A-97CE-5684BC71235B.jpeg7CC8EFB8-7C21-48D7-AF6E-50A86647F763.jpegB2AA296A-75AE-4E8B-8466-68E68B060992.jpeg

Its now had a final coat to seal everything in . I decided on a satin finish as the chinese aircraft looked quite weather beaten in the few photographs available. The olive drab anti glare panel was masked and sprayed with Tamiya xf86 flat clear for a matt finish. The nav lights and identification lamps were added with Tamiya clear red, green and orange.

Ive now fitted the undercarriage and rudder , and now the cockpit has been unmasked trying the canopy for size. To have it in the open position a bit of the canopy frame and part of the fuselage have to be shaved down a bit so it sits correctly.

With a Great leap forward , ive got the
last few fiddly bits done today. The exhaust stains were sprayed with a thin black brown mixture and the control surfaces had a dark wash to emphasise them a bit . Im not going to do a panel line wash as the recessed lines are very visible already . The drop tanks have been glued on and the fuel lines added from stretched sprue .Ive given the inner undercarriage doors some retraction jacks , using some old telephone cable wires , the solid ones . The canopy has been added and the sliding rails on the cockpit edges were made using evergreen strip. The aerial was shaped from a piece of rod ( the kit one was poorly formed ) and the DF loop was made using a section of plastic drinking straw ( remember them !?) and a bit of my old faithfull nail art jewel . Guns were also fitted using brass tube .
Im calling this done now so heres a few pics to finish off this thread and Ill put some completed ones on tomorrow , thanks to all who have been watching , you are a credit to the peoples republic
