What are you planning to use for Aotake?

there is a metallic blue on the Gunze range that’s OK or Vallejo do a blue and green. The latter need spraying over a gloss silver metallic base. Worth noting that Aotake is found in several blue/green shades and it varied. Some claim it weathered blue to green but researchers believe that it varied in the factory application and aircraft have been found in a patchwork of different Aotake shades. On 1/24 scale kits that means there is lots of scope to add interest to internals using different Aotake shades.

By the way, Vallejo do a nice ‘Ash Grey’ for the Pearl Harbour camo scheme in their IJN set.

I did get myself a set of metallic mig colors that does include a couple of different metallic blue shades.
So I can have a play around and see what I come up with.

Hi Peter
Not a plane we see modelled often. Don't see that many Japanese planes at all. It will be a large model at that scale. I am sure you'll make a cracking job of this.

More of today's work.
I have the engine and cockpit installed in one fuselage side and the tail wheel and rudder.
And I have had a go at weathering the front cowling.20200513_122506.jpg20200513_124627.jpg20200513_143009.jpg20200513_143014.jpg

I've got a 1/48 Zero (in the green colour scheme) in my stash waiting for some attention and I have a Tamiya metallic blue I was going to use for the Aotake.
Watching this to see how you get on (1/24 must be a fair size).
Looking good so far!

Apologies for the lack of updates.
But here's what it looks like as I have the wings and fuselage together with no dramas as it a simple and easy build so far.20200515_105814.jpg
