For those who have to put up with very rough flying fields how about this arrangement ? the Army wanted an undercarriage that would cope with all types of rough terrain,Auster's ftted and tested this all moving gear which worked well.

Despite the tests the Army never used the gear probably because the Skeeter helicopter going into service a few years later could land just about anywhere.

Because the Americans like to do things bigger and brighter they tried the idea on a slightly bigger scale, like a B-36! It worked but it kept dismantling itself on landing, anyway here are some photos of it
