Hi guys,

I found a bottle of Model Air brass in my paint drawer, I think I bought it to do the bolt heads on the inside of a Bradley a couple of years ago. I want to try airbrushing it but never used this brand for spraying before. What do I need to know regarding thinning it to airbrush?

Cheers,

B

I have always found Model Air airbrushes well straight from the bottle, and can obviously be thinned further to suit. Admittedly I have not got any metallic colours from them I don't think.

Thanks for the quick responses gents, will give it a go neat from the bottle. :smiling3:

Out of interest, if I did need to thin it, what would I use?

Cheers gents. I don't have or want to buy Vallejo thinner as this is a one of use of their paint.

Ian, is it the X-20A thinner you use? I have plenty of that. :smiling3:

Yeah it pains me to buy the different brands to suit, just don't use Mr Levelling Thinner...turns my Vallejo to gloop.

Check your needle size. It works best with a .3 or larger needle. .2 works but for that thin the paint a little with Vallejo Thinner. It does not work well with smaller needle sizes.

Thanks for all the advice gents, it sprayed fine neat through a .4 nozzle.

One more quick question, how long does it need to dry before masking?

Ideally in an airing cupboard for 24 hours and prime first on washed plastic.

Thanks Barry. :smiling3:

I'd cleaned the parts with IPA before priming with Mr Surfacer 1500. From that point they were only handled with gloves on so hopefully I should have avoided getting finger oil on them. I sprayed the Vallejo last night so will wait until tomorrow before masking to be on the safe side.
