Hi all

So last Saturday we visited the Shuttleworth Collection (https://www.shuttleworth.org/). Rather embarrassingly, despite having lived within 45 minutes for 80% of my life, I'd never been....

For those not in the know this is a former private collection, mainly of planes but also includes some vehicles and agricultural equipment, which is now run by a charity. It sits in some nice grounds too. Some of the aircraft are very rare if not unique and a number are actually airworthy, flying from the on-site aerodrome. They have a number of events each year where aircraft fly.

Below are a selection of pictures but there are too many to upload. You can view the full album here if you want to see all of them. Can someone please check the link as I don't always get this sharing thing right.

Wherever possible I took a picture of the description first and then the plane. Unfortunately though we had issues with the card in our digital SLR and so lost about 1/6 of the pictures, meaning you may find cases of a description but no plane, or vice versa.

I even managed to find something for our very own Comrade Race - it's not in 4BO but I think he will like it!!

Finally, you'll see some 'arty' pictures of the grounds as Junior wanted to take some pictures. Some came out really well and so I think he has his mother's eye for these things.

Enjoy and all the best.

Andrew

PS as always, if anyone wants any of the original pictures, then please send me a PM

Great place isn't it! I joined the Shuttleworth Veteran Aircraft Society so I can get in for nothing. There aren't many places where you can see two Hurricanes. Has the restaurant reopened yet?

Hi Pete

It is indeed. Hard to believe I've never been and yet lived so close. The restaurant was still shut when we visited last Saturday.

Comrade Race

Thank for your stopping by and your expressions of gratitude. :thumb2:

However, I must now though myself at your mercy. Having made a great show of having something specially for you I realised I had not included them in the highlights as intended. :sad-face::cold-sweat:

I can only offer you my most sincerest of apologies for this most heinous of crimes and beg for your forgiveness, lest it come to the attention of the authorities and I find myself transported to some Siberian gulag.......:cold-sweat::fearful::sad:

As you will see I have now corrected this great omission and trust that you will deem the matter closed.

Your humblest and most grovelling of servants.

Andrew The Ashamed

PS I also added another picture I had meant to include first time around. It has the potential to put a whole new spin on Wimbledon.....

Thanks Tim. Indeed. There were quite a few very big blown up photos of around the hangars too. If I go back I'll try and get some of those as they had some interesting subjects.

Those large photos are funded by the sales of books and tools. They sometimes have kits donated for sale too - I've got a Frog Shackleton from there, waiting until I feel brave enough to make a start on it.

Thanks for the info Pete. I'll have to keep any eye out for kits next time I'm there - just not with my wife around.

Great work on the pic's Andrew. Thanks for taking time to show them.

No problem at all. It's my way of giving something back for all the advice and support I get from the experts on here.

Thanks Lee. I think you're right!! :smiling5:

I'll pass your comments onto Junior, he's responsible for all of the outside shots.
