What’s the difference between a ship and a boat?

I think its to do with tonnage an size as on my norfolk above no plimsole line as its a draught line with meters on draught line an again on my nimitz aircraft carrier there is a draught line again in black an on U/S ships the draught numbers are in feet as nimitz is over 100'000 tons in real an draws 40 ft of water an my model shows this in pic below an i think no boat would have a draught line showing draught numbers just my thoughts on the subject carrier build113.jpg

Well I think we can conclude that we all agree that a 'carved in stone' definition is not going to coming any time soon.
So for the sake of putting an end to it, if it's big it's a big boat and if smaller it's a little ship.
