Few more different shaded areas done on the wings and a few access panels . Its now had a couple of coats of the vallejo metal color clear varnish so once its hardened it will be ready for decals. Ive also been prepping the undercarriage and ordnance . The undercarriage and wheels are beautifully detailed and will look great after painting and a wash.2F34D776-F56C-476E-A4AE-5FB765F20D8B.jpegB5108EBC-C891-49CB-AB21-99FE2642360F.jpeg3F2DEBDB-4A3C-4195-885F-5810025AF355.jpeg273E133D-A009-4D8B-932C-4F07D68AFDDA.jpegAEB1A25D-A0D2-4D94-A1C0-5CFCEFB57794.jpegF947496E-8077-42CC-B063-C425CB14BA60.jpeg7F8F9775-1DFA-477F-882F-AC3B2D6992F4.jpeg

Lovin* this Tony. How did you keep the trigger down to rotate the bomb?
Pretty much as the photo tim except i was pressing the trigger with my left hand , arms crossed .I drilled a hole in the back end of each bomb and shoved a cocktail stick in then mounted them in the drill and adjusted until they were turning without wobbling too much . Then its just get the drill going as slow as you can and touch the paintbrush to it . Some were a bit wider than others but I expect they were hand painted on the real thing so there were probably variations there too.

I've tried that trick with the drill but I couldn't get them to rotate without wobbling. Must have another try sometime though, yours look great.

Decals now on , what i thought was going to be a half hour job took three hours! The aftermarket decals were very reluctant to leave the backing paper , taking about 15 mins each to release and then i had to persuade most of them with a wet thumb . Anyways its now done , just a light sealing coat and then i can unmask it and start getting the knocky off bits put on .83709446-882D-4CD6-BE92-ED823351F3DA.jpeg6AF02684-F9D3-46FC-8596-47145B5DB392.jpeg

Its now had a coat of Klear and has dried nicely . The masking has been taken off the olive drab section and the nose cone and thankfully no touch ups required . Ive been working on the ancillaries today , painting the fuses and braces on the bombs and getting the undercarriage legs together. The landing lights were drilled out and painted with the Molotov chrome pen then a clear plastic disc ( punched out from some clear sheet ) glued over the top . The nose leg has yet to have the ILS radar reflector fitted with the two landing lights , which will be drilled out also. 55005B4D-9222-448B-8A8D-78AF3518AAB8.jpeg474D0126-8A13-4E3F-A06F-BB03B71D37BA.jpeg429145AC-F1D4-4E43-AE78-88A97E98ED32.jpegD8FD5B0D-63A9-492B-9F69-4909550B1794.jpeg

Undercarriage and doors now on , and ive fitted the centreline multiple bomb rack . The kit pitot was discarded early in the build when I reshaped the nose cone and a new one has been made using brass tube and rod . This was fitted , blended in and then the nose cone had a coat of matt black . Not much left now just the canopy to remove and finish , the bombs and drop tanks to attach and the exhaust to weather .56C37E7E-5146-4776-9D60-96339F3D5E56.jpegF4C18017-1E8B-4608-A7AF-D11CFCD20F76.jpeg1C3AB8B0-7223-4DA9-B2C9-DBA9F4A2F1B0.jpegF3461DCF-0738-438A-99D0-7A1310EBD98A.jpeg6349162F-EB8C-44CB-B870-99C93ED034FA.jpeg

Had a good crack at this over the weekend . Got the drop tanks and bombs fitted and painted the exhaust/ airbrake petals a dark steel colour . These were then shaded with a dark grey eye shadow . I took off the temporarily fixed canopy and tidied up the edge. The canopy had no internal detail ( like most ) so after studying some good close ups I added some bits and bobs , some wires and made the canopy jack and hinge. A wound guitar string was unravelled off the core to make the two coiled wires . The canopy was then fixed on , and then I realised I’d forgotten the yellow seals round the edges of the glass so had to hand paint them in situ ( hence the wobbly edges) . Anyways im calling it done , heres some pics to round off this thread and I’ll take some proper ones ( with a bigger backdrop !) for a ‘completed’ thread tomorrow . Thanks to anyone whos been following , next up is the last one - the F-106 Delta Dart . 7F447C6B-0F0D-4AC5-97B5-F128C20AE1FC.jpeg44870CDE-C605-494C-A784-6DF9239E7F24.jpeg7D955713-4538-4E20-93F9-1277763FD0B8.jpeg56A1063B-7F26-4B5F-BB0A-8DDD303C2E63.jpeg5B707D73-9AAF-41A7-839A-E278701BF45E.jpeg77B7315A-1E31-4446-87CF-953A800FE07A.jpeg225A6580-8034-4B19-9F61-8864118783E5.jpegE4256D47-53FD-481B-804C-8A48BA01868F.jpeg6151C721-093D-475F-991A-EC6BF10CD06C.jpegAA4BAB5B-BC23-4A00-8E0F-227FF1B76A3C.jpeg3B28DCBA-8985-467E-84F1-D33BD5EC0AD9.jpeg

Lovely work. The cables on the canopy add real finesse.
That finish! Commendable work Tony.
Thanks tim and chris , im pleased with how it turned out , there was a point when i fitted the elevators and drop tanks that it gently sat on its arse and I thought it was going to be a tail sitter . I didnt put any weight in the nose as I didnt think it needed it but I wasnt aware how angled forward the main u/c legs were , fortunately once the bombs and canopy were added it JUST tipped the balance back to the front . Cheers tony
