Interesting, so what will you use for thinners ? cellulose ?
Yes , ive got a single action external mix airbrush , you know the cheap suction type with the conical brass nozzle that just pokes up into the airstream . Ive been experimenting with this and it seems to work fine, the advantage of this type is that there are no seals to be affected by the cellulose , and no moving parts that are in contact with the paint so its easy to clean and less prone to blockages/ drying .ive even had a go spraying some with quite large flakes of glitter in them with reasonable results.

I started the paint job today , i wanted to do this first so the paint has plenty of time to harden while i build the rest before polishing. First the shell was de-seamed and primed with white primer (this was actually done about a week ago), this was then rubbed smooth with a very fine sanding sponge ready for the top coat. The nail polish would have no trouble sticking to the bare plastic but as im thinning with cellulose I wanted the extra protection of a primer coat to avoid any reaction with the plastic. I thinned the nail polish 1/1 with cellulose thinners and sprayed it on in several coats not leaving too long between (about 5 mins) It has to be sprayed fairly wet or it can dry quickly and get the orange peel effect. The final coat was about 3/1 thinners to polish misted on to flash the surface and give a smooth finish. Its not super glossy yet , im going to polish the paint when its thoroughly hardened. heres a few pics to show what i did

Ok heres where im at now. The body has had plenty of time to cure so its time to polish it up. For this im using Eucryl toothpowder , a very mild abrasive applied with a damp cotton cloth and finger. The beauty of using this is that unlike some petroleum based car polishes theres no chance it will react with the plastic or paint. Its only £1 at Poundland (surprise! ) and it will polish the paintwork nicely. heres the pics of the process, the bonnet has had the right side polished and the left unpolished to show the difference , the triangular shape is a test piece that I sprayed at the same time to experiment with the polish first. next steps the engine ,chassis and interior, cheers tony

Well the decal stripes have gone on beautifully , typical modern Revell decals . Ive just got the air vents to paint black and the window surrounds and wipers /door handles etc. to paint then the body is ready , its just a case of sorting the engine and interior, cheers tonyDSCN2288 [Desktop Resolution].JPG DSCN2289 [Desktop Resolution].JPG DSCN2290 [Desktop Resolution].JPG

Looking good Tony, loving the colour mate. And loving the Eucryl too, would never thought of that one.

Have fun, John

Looks rather good that. I have some freaky colour nail varnish I bought for a beetle but could not get it to go down. I will follow your lead and have another go one day.

Now that body looks sweet truly a delight to see and the polishing you have done really brings out the true colour ( like a good wax on the real thing)
Does the polish have to be sealed afterwards or is it like a final polish coat ( if you know what I mean.

Lobe the colour really do

Robert

The reason I ask on the polish is I'm aware that most Jets would nave a Matt finish but when the early jets came out it seems they had a somewhat shine and gleen to them and I'm wondering once painted I could polish it up?
Advice always welcome

Regards

Robert

If its for the phantom robert i would try a satin varnish , i think a full blown gloss would maybe be a bit too much in this scale. The trouble with polishing is that if theres not much thickness of paint then theres the danger of going through , on the camaro i gave it about five coats of nail polish ! Cheers tony
