I was brought up with Airfix but rarely build them now as they do not make 1/32 scale aircraft. The few 1/48 and 1/24 Airfix kits I have built have not exactly been my best build experiences.

That said I am so pleased now to give a completely unreserved recommendation for an Airfix kit. If this new tool Bucc is an example of what’s to come then Airfix really have arrived at the top of the game. I would rank this kit as among the very best designed, engineered and produced kits on the market and I do not exclude Tamiya from this. It really wanted to be built and went together like a dream with absolutely no issues at all. One reason for this being so much better than previous releases is the plastic they used, that old soft plastic that was prone to shrinkage and warping is gone and replaced with a much better plastic and better quality control.

This kit did get criticism over its cost but, clearly, that criticism did not take into account the huge strides they have made in quality. If you are happy to pay £65 for a Tamiya 1/48 masterpiece then you will be happy about paying the same for this Airfix kit (from Johns Shop). Just do it, you know it makes sense!!!!

OK some photos. I could have built this with the crew ladders and with the intake covers in place but decided to leave them off to show off the lines of this incredible aircraft.

Fantastic. Superbly done. Probably one of the best aircraft ever.
That looks fab Barry. I'm waiting for the RAF version....

You mean the second hand versions. (After the Navy 'gave' them to the light blue!!!)

Beautifully finished as always Barry and it's great to hear that Airfix have nailed the kit.

The Bucc is on my radar, Airfix have really upped their game lately and there's some nice attention to detail in their later kits. (Weighted wheels in 1/72 kits....)
Great result as always.

That is a great looking finish. I know very little about aircraft but she is a beauty. Is this the only aircraft that has a glass partition between the crewmen.

First one of these I've seen built Barry and it really does look like it justifies it's cost. Superb result

That is a great result Barry. You’ve done a fabulous job on a very tidy looking kit - the details look sharp and the surface detail crisp but restrained. And the finish you’ve given the Buccaneer looks flawless. Like a few others I’m waiting for the RAF version so I can do a Gulf War, desert scheme. Looking at yours it’s something to really look forward to.
All the best
Paul
