The crew of United Flight #221 aborted takeoff after an indicator warned of smoke coming from the airplane's left-side engine.

It happened as the Airbus 319 taxied at 40 knots on Runway 30 at Dulles Airport at 2:48 p.m.

Passengers were deplaned using emergency chutes and moved to the United terminal where they were evaluated by EMS. Meanwhile, firefighters sprayed foam on Runway 30.

Three passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the hospital. United #221 was bound for Los Angeles with 120 passengers and five crew members.
