I need to paint the fin flash on my "what if" Harrier and I dont know which blue to get. My paints of choice are Vallejo.

Any advice will be gratefully recieved.

Vallejo model color =Dark red. and either prussian blue or dark prussian blue. I have compared them to White Ensigns Insignia red and blue and they look pretty much the same to me under both day light and lamp light.

Am I missing something here Tony.

Are you using decals for the rest ? If you are then you need to match the decal colours. My experience is that Red & Blue are totally different with each decal manufacturer.

What period is the 'what if' Harrier representing?

That would determine the actual shades as well.

If it is a 'what if' the Harrier was operational in 1939 they would be different to if it was 1940 or if a more recent period for which would it need low viz markings? I do not know enough about post war to say in respect of the latter.

For 1939 I would agree with Ian.

But for 1940...

Red: Air 80 Rust (they were more a browny colour)

Blue: Air 91 Insignia Blue

I got these off a Vallejo leaflet providing RAF WW2 colours and they look right to me.

Thanks guys, the decals I'm using have been lifted from the Red arrows Folland Gnat, so I suppose they would be colours from the 60's or 70's.

Any help gratefully recieved please.

Tony.
