Found this while looking for something else, for those of you who build larger it may be of interest. Just for fun I tried it on a bit of soft drink can aluminuim and it seems to work ok on that as well.

When I did 1/76 railway modelling (finescale) I did a lot of scratch building (wagons mainly). To add rivet heads I punched some plastic card with a suitable pointed metal object so that a dome was raised on the other side. A razor blade was then used to cut off the dome. Whew! Assuming a 3/4 inch rivet head, the head should have been 0.08 mm in diameter, so mine turned out to be a bit overscale. (Punching through from the inner side of the steel corner "angle iron" resulted in varying sizes and not always accurately in-line.) I must have had some patience then, but the result was superb.
