Back to the bench and I pulled this out of my enormous stash of 3 models.

I always enjoy painting these little guys and I must say that Victrix does provide some nice little castings to work on.
You get 4 sprues in the pack enough to make 2 different elephants and to add crew from Carthage, Romans, Numidians or Egyptians. I have cosen to make them as Carthaginians.

Just a little cleanup needed as I have assembled number one Tusker. Working on number 2 before I get to paint.

Just the Howdah and jingly bits to add.

Hi John
Something different. I've seen horses, dogs, a camel even a bear but not hephalumps!
I am sure your skills will produce a stunner.

I remember seeing this kit in the window of our now defunct local model shop, and it was one of the things that made me think of getting back into the hobby.

Looking forward to following along John.

Guys welcome to this little blog and much appreciated all your encouragement.

Both Dumbo 1 and Dumbo 2 have now been assembled. I did add an extra little bit of anatomical detail that maybe Nellie would appreciate. I have also started to make them a basic dessert base to stamp around on. This has been fashioned from Magic Sculpt and will eventually be textured with acrylic medium with pumice, to give it a sandy look.

Next up some paint then some Howdha doodahs.

Hi John, I've always wondered what it would be like to hunt tigers from the back of an elephant.
Can't imagine waging war from up there. I'll take a seat somewhere out of harm's way and try not to get stepped on.:rolling:
Cheers, Rick H.

Tim and Rick thanks for looking in.

This is going to be slow progress with Christmas looming. However I have assembled a couple of Howdahs, just stuck on a piece of sprue for now so that I can paint them.

Also preshading is done on dumbo and dumboer. Just waiting for my order of AK paints Elephant weathering set.

All looking very good John.

Reminds me that for a few years I used to stand under this waiting to catch my bus home from work:

Elephant_&_Castle,_London,_England.jpg

(Elephant and Castle shopping centre).

The real thing would probably have been a better mode of transport than the 176 from Oxford Circus.

Hi John, I was laughing at the Howdha Doodahs until I looked it up...they're really called Howdahs(Houda). The twins are looking good. I like the wind swept sand base and was going to attempt the same for my North African dio.
This will turn out as good as if I remember the American Revolution bridge crossing dio you did.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi John
You will find that weathering set excellent. I have used the AK rat and mouse weathering set with good results!!
Seriously though the base is great - love the wind blown sand. Elephants already looking fine as are the howdi whatsits.

Rick Thanks mate watch this space
Peter The old Elephant and Castle... Way back in my distant career I worked at Lewisham Town Hall and travelled the road to the then GLC office frequently
Richard welcome aboard sir. Everyone in England grew up learning about Howdahs and Mahouts thanks to the Jewel in the Crown.
Jim Good to have you along as another wildlife painter.

The base of these two Panzer units is now about done. Just the turrets to add and the driver etc etc. Dusted down with some pigments and set in place. I think one will be done as the Aus f version with the dark turret whilst the other will be Aus G with the lighter turret.

John, wow what a difference! The Boys are coming on nicely. Makes me want to grab up my Rigby's 577/500 and climb aboard.
Cheers, Rick H.

John, they are fantastic. How on earth did you paint the clothwork so neatly and cleanly? They look like real cloth!

John,

Lovely work so far, it wouldn't surprise me if AK brought out an elephant weathering set:tongue-out3: How did you create the wind blown sand I was thinking of doing this for my present build.
