Thank You all Gentlemen,

I will answer you all with an update later on today. I am trying to sort things out and relax a little. I will only say that I didn't win anything at all in the comps, but my 3 friends did, including 2 bronze medals.....

Late evening from the Mole and after the big weekend folks,

Still suffering a bit from the lack of sleep over the last 5 days, but as I said earlier, I want to update the happenings,
Dude,
They look the dogs cahoonas
I second that what Mr. Scottie sed!!....."Big Cahoonas"!!
Thanks so much guys!!! I think PaulE took care of that in his post...

I don't think my nerves would survive decals that big! Very well done indeed.
Thank you Andy!!! The decals aren't as bad as I thought they would be. They are tough as nails and don't rip. A man with your skills would have no probs with applying them and the nerves would be be fine...

Excellently done, Allen. I personally think the undercoat you used improves the decal finish. The original looks a bit bland.
John.
Thanks too John!!! I went with a linen color overall, but I forgot to lighten it with some white mixed in. I think they came about the right shade. White, as a base, would have been too bright, like you said...

Allen

My turn to appologise for getting behind. Just had a catch-up. That is simply outstanding work.

Very well done indeed!!

ATB.

Andrew
No probs Andrew!!! Thank you for keeping up and you are doing better at it, than I am, my friend. There is never a need to apologize either. I know you have been very busy with the washing machine running non-stop lately...

That is really starting to look the part, both the plane and the wagon.
Thanks Jakko!!! Just a shame I didn't have another week to finish it...

Great job with those decals and on the flatcar. :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2:
Mille Gracie Andrea!!! Are you bored in retirement yet Sir??? I bet you are...

Super stuff. Love the flat car. Glad the decals went on so well
Much appreciated Jim and I was surprised with the decals too. I like the material they are made from, but they just need to snuggle down a tick better...

You've been awarded the Brass Cajones for taking on this difficult project. The Cajones Award was from my remote support days. The award was prominently displayed on top of the recipients monitor along with an official looking certificate explaining the actions taken. The Brass Cajones was the highest award. Below in the plastic box are the Beaver Cajones ( for weasel or whimpie behavior) & the empty hanger for the dreaded No Cajones.

Thank you very much Buddy!!! I am truly humbled by this award and sorry I didn't have time to write an acceptance speech for the masses. I will cherish it always and try to do even better next time!!!.....Now I just need to know where to send the 20 boxes of Dark Chocolates, in downtown Ohio...

There ya go Allen....looks like you'll have plenty of real estate to scratch around on, with a set that big!! ;)
Hey Bro, You are sooo right there!!! I just wish I had finished the 'Tros' in time...

Next time, with the Albatros....;):thumb2::thumb2::thumb2:
I really hope so my friend. The Lingen show in March comes quicker than one thinks...

Anyway, I worked like hell for the past 2 weeks, but in the windmills of my mind, I knew I couldn't complete the whole project in time. A bit of progress before we went to the show on Friday,

IMG_4132.JPG
Decals finished and the fusi was painted FX-83. The The linen color on the upper fusi for the base coat for the hex decals. on to the upper wing support crap,

IMG_4133.JPG
the self-made Cabane Struts were added with the hope they were the right length and the top wing would sit on them properly. I tried to measure them the best I could. I nipped the wing struts off the sprue, cleaned them up and, had them at the ready for judgement day with the fit,

IMG_4134.JPG
Surprised the hell outta me as the struts all lined p and the top wing sat fine. I CA'd the 2 wing struts to the bottom wing and then the 2 other ones. I gently and carefully flipped the bird over and repeated the same exercise on the Cabane and wing struts,

IMG_4135.JPG
It all lined up well and while it dried, I applied the tail wing and flappy decals. I then put on the fusi decal piece, and sorted the rigging pieces out on the board for later. Another view,

IMG_4136.JPG
Then it was on to the gorgeous floats, their struts and decals,

IMG_4137.JPG
Decals cut to size, Evergreen struts made with brass tubing inside for strength and painted the float tops with the same color as the rest of the surfaces for the hex decals. On to the fusi underside,

IMG_4138.JPG
I had also attached one end of all the rigging to the underside of the top wing. after that, I applied the decals to the floats and painted the struts. I thought I had taken pics, but I can't find them anywhere. Here's a pic from the hotel, Friday night around 11PM, with my old butt trying to adjust the floats before some CA,

IMG-20231015-WA0008.jpg
Nice hotel, but they didn't have a desk, or even a chair for me to sit on while working. The room lighting was also very p*ss poor. With the help of Fernando and his light in his cell phone, I got the height adjusted. Then, with his and my two hands, we got all four struts into the holes and the plane back on the table. CA'd the struts to the floats and then the struts into the fusi. Then off to bed. Went to the show and put the puppy on the table, in my category and marked it as WIP,

TBC in the morn, as the Chinese Disease, 'Dragon Ass' has kicked in and I can't see straight, let alone type anymore tonight..........Thanks again good people for the great comments and good wishezzzzzzzzzzz...

Thank you Andrew, but now that the show is over, it will be going into a rebuild. Floats off, new struts made and other things and then rebuilt back up...

After a good nights sleep, I'm back. While we are on the hotel side of things...I've seen a lot of rooms in my life, but this room was a first. I can't explain why it is so, other than maybe they shot pornos in it,

20231016_081603.jpg
A glass wall between the beds and the loo. That's a first for me. There was a big shade/curtain thing you could roll up and down on a chain,

20231016_081636.jpg
Still, it was very strange...Back at the show.....

I had emailed the organizer's in September to get clarification on the rules for the scratch/conversion category and if WIP's were allowed. I never received an answer, so I went with it. My project was the only unfinished piece in the whole competition. I'm still not sure, but I think with the rule changes to the rules of the World Model Expo, from last July, eliminated WIP's in the scratch/conversion category. It really doesn't matter, as it was fun and I had stated earlier that I don't care if I win anything or not. It was only the second time in my life in a comp...

My three friends did well, with Fernando getting a Highly Commendable and a Bronze medal. Anton got a Highly Commendable and Thorsten got a Highly Commendable and also a Bronze medal...As a group, we did well and on Sunday, I just sang that old Beck song...

I will be keeping this post going when I start the rebuild. I have time now to do it right and finish it. I am taking a break from the table for a few days too. I have to sort through the pics and get them posted up...

Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement on my madness and a huge thanks again to Neil Merryweather!!!

Looking better and better.

That hotel room is odd. Me, I'd wake up in the night for a pee (an age thing) and in the gloom walk straight into the glass divider and do myself a permanent!!! :rolling:

Youngerthanme,
Just had a catchup on your build and what an impressive bit of work it is, although I did wonder what the thing was with the half barrels at each end was. That will teach me to start at the begining.
Comps - I know at one time you could put your work in as WIP and it would be judged on its build merit and complexity and awarded accordingly. But from experience a lot of the judges today would not recognise scratch work and how much is involved before you even cut plastic from a pigs behind, but so long as it has a cross on it or comes with the title Sherman that is all they know. (my opinion)
Hotel room - Know we know what the reviewers mean when they say the room had a c--p view....
Anyway good to see you back on the bench instead of kneeling in front of it trying to get the booze filled eyes in focus....
Prost

All a bit strange…..there was a cafe in Brighton that I visited once with a one way mirror opposite the toilet. When you sat down you could look out into the cafe but they couldn’t see in….very disconcerting. Also went in a restaurant in Dieppe once that had the entrance to the ladies restroom through the gents urinal area. Didn’t half put you off your aim the first time a lady walked through………

I once stayed in a hotel in Savannah, Georgia that had a large window between the bedroom and bathroom, and yes, the toilet faced that window so you were looking straight at the bed. There was a curtain though to close off the window.

That’s nothing Rick. In both Italy and Turkey I was using the facilities to take my ease and the female attendant came in and started mopping the floor around me,…and I’m not going into the merits or otherwise of the elephants feet style toilets. I think they are just weird.

Right Tim.....I'm familiar with the W/C's in Naples but at least they had doors on them and no windows or attendants!

In the early 80s I was showing my company's products at an exhibition in Wuhan, which at the time was a closed city - no tourists allowed. I bought a Berlitz guide on the way there and made sure I knew the symbols for toilets, so when an Australian lady on the stand next to mine asked me where the ladies toilets were I felt confident to follow the signs to a low building outside the hall, one entrance labelled for gents, another for ladies. We went in, then realised it was actually a unisex toilet block and the separate entrances were just entrances to a shared space. The facilities were a brick wall about waist height with a liquid-filled trench in front, and along each wall were rows of low brick circles like garden wishing wells, with no partitions anywhere. What was worse for the ladies was the insatiable curiosity of the local ladies, who seemed fascinated by Western underwear and gathered round my Australian friend while she had a wee.
All the exhibitors demanded that the exhibition organisers provided a shuttle bus to take anyone who needed a toilet back to the hotel.

Yessss! LOL, I remember the first time I stopped in a rest area in France and there it was the hole in the floor..... But if you put your feet on the blocks you could never miss.... And the female cleaner mopping the floor, or having to use the ladies alongside the ladies because the mens toilet was closed for cleaning....
