The balkenkreuz that needed fitting before I spray the green got fitted this morning before I went to work . Tonight theyve dried thoroughly so it was time to get the green blotches on .I turned the airbrush needle stop right in so there was only a fraction of movement and turned the air down a bit . The paint was thinned and a good few drops of flow improver added and off we went. I had to keep cleaning the needle tip and nozzle as the paint was drying on the needle and clogging but eventually got there . Ive assembled the prop and spinner / engine fan . The spiral on the spinner was a little short at the prop end so it was finished off with a touch of white .
The centreline bomb rack has been fitted and the black sections behind the exhaust have been painted . Next job is a gloss coat to seal in the green and then the rest of the decals - my guess is it looks like the camo was overpainted with the sand/green scheme after the aircraft was transferred from another unit then the unit specific markings were added after . Maybe this would explain why the balkenkreuz were painted round and oversprayed a little but the number and squadron emblem look like they were done after the green . The top has now had a coat of clear gloss ( original Johnsons Klear) and the rest of the decals can go on tomorrow once its dried. Ive also repainted the prop as I had given it a dry brush of silver to simulate wear and chipping before discovering the props were wooden - doh! , so the rlm 70 came out again and they got another coat. 6C6DE18F-386B-4354-AE37-AFC493709412.jpeg

Got the rest of the decals on now , I decided after looking at the photograph ( see page 1 ) that the oversprayed mottling would have probably obscured most of the stencilling as its not visible at all in the pic. To this end I just applied the serial number and unit badge on the topside and the few stencils on the underside . Speaking of which the quality of these Revell decals is first class - the stencils are all readable under magnification ! The undercarriage has now been fitted , not an easy task to say its supposed to be a beginner kit .I had to fit the retraction linkages first then the legs after , being careful to get the right ‘ knock kneed’ forward leaning stance , as it was virtually impossible to do it after .
I’m not a massive fan of overdone panel line washes , especially at this scale so all that was highlighted was the control surfaces and a few select panels / rivets that would likely have been visible such as the engine access panels.
Its now had a couple of light coats of Tamiya xf 86 flat clear and is drying . Next is the final bits and bobs - guns / aerial wire/ step/ nav lights . Coming on very nicely indeed. Was thinking the same about the panel lines on my 109s, given how small they are - so good to have some confirmation from a wingy expert such as yourself!!!

Little bit more progress today . The cannons have been made from brass tube and painted vallejo metallic black , and the machine guns on the engine cover have been made from brass too and stuck on. Originally these were plastic and part of the rear engine cover but must have got knocked off during the build. The exhaust staining has been sprayed each side and at the bottom of the cowling and the nav lights painted on with Tamiya clear red / clear green . Not much left to do now , just fit the bomb ,fit the step, unmask the canopy , fit the aerial wire and take some completed pics .
