Catalina pby

A Catalina PBY. One flew at the Jersey Battle of Britain show some 5 years ago. Filmed it in the air & on the ground. Unfortunately as I was filming for a company I did not have the chance of taking a free flight around the Island.

A most beautiful aircraft. It takes off with those big wings with such ease & banks so gracefully. The only thing I have missed is one landing on water.

An interesting kit Laurie it's nice to see something different being built. You've made a great start there's some nice detail going on there.

Nice work on the cockpit, or is it a bridge if it's on the water, mmm ?

Either way a cracking start.

Tony.

Thanks Joe. Nice sequence showing both types of landing. I have seen in the real the wheels type but not on water. Great shots.

Such a graceful aircraft on the water on the ground & in the air.

Some progress.

First part painted the window area then fitted windows. Will mask with rolls of white tack to make sure I get a crisp line around the windows rather than mask the windows them selves. Hope it works.

The Pilot Deck & ground landing gear.

The body put together very neatly minor work only on tidying up the seams. Wings just enormous. I have put a Mosquito in to show the size. Both models are 1/48. Never mind I have found a big room for it. Plenty of ventilation & light during the day. Pauline calls it the garden.

It is a large wing, when you see it in real life it looks like a gigantic plank of wood with a boat stuck to it. Seems to take forever to get airborne.
