The star turn at yesterday's EMBC regatta was undoubtedly this model of Charlotte Dundas - the world's first commercial steam powered boat that used to ply the Forth-Clyde canal. The model was brought along by Alan Pollock of Falkirk who scratch built her from early drawings. Despite the gales she performed very well and enthralled the crowd. The paddle is actually powered by an electric motor via a chain drive but the clever bit is that all those wonderful links in the steam plant oscillate as she moves. She was a joy to watch.
