Hello again this time a fairly simple task of assembling the gearbox which is made from 4 separate parts an inner section made of 2 pieces which contain all the screw fixing points and outer section of 2 parts that screw onto the inner section using the inner section as the screw to part of the operation
Next you fitted 2 wheel bush assemblies pushing the 2 parts together before screwing them to the outer gearbox casing from the other side repeating this for the other side of the outer gearbox casing then came 2 shock absorbers that were made from a lower and upper section which was simply glued together then the final wheel brake assembly done as in the previous posts and finally a dry fit of the rear whishbone just to check on its fit and where it is fitted to

Greetings again well this section has been a right pia
1st off assembled the last remaining wheel brake assembly unit then got the 1st look at the gearbox assembly basically everything so far built screws onto the rear gearbox assembly
Next indian inked all silver parts such as shock absorbers brakes etc to give more depth to threads etc as in previous stages
So as you can see from the photos some of the pieces are tiny ie the bolts it took an hour of fiddling around just to get them into place along with the obligatory ping from the tweezers trick which happend on numerous occasions hence the hour to fit just 5 small bolts
Next came hoses and braided lines to various bits and various locations on the gearbox assembly finally and just as fiddly as the bolts were there were 2 tiny eyebolts onto which the anti roll bar fitted this completes pack 12 only 8 to go now

This time its the rear suspension and brake discs assemblies this was quite complicated and included numerous swear words along with the construction
Basically all i did was screw onto the rear gearbox the springs and various assemblies constructed from previous sections the photo’s show it better than words

Simple one this was just cutting out some mylar foil from templates and sticking it to the underfloor section of the car then cover the heat exchanger with this mylar foil and stick it into place on the panel and finally fit the exahust ports
The last part of the pack was to add the oil filter onto the engine and attach a piece of braided pipework to it

Hello again this time the engine was built up along with some fuel and brake lines on the 4 wheel brake assembly’s
Lousy fit on the plenium chamber and the top of the engine but apart from that no dramas this time around.
I have to question what’s the point of assembling say the top of the engine ie the the cam covers etc only to have to dissemble them 3 stages later to add additional parts sounds like it was modified during the series forcing you to retrofit new parts anyway still resembles a major pile up instead of a sleek F1 car

Greetings again this time adding more detail to the engine such as fuel injectors and the plenium chamber blow off valve
Radiators previously assembled were attached to the sides of the monocoque and the brake piping was added to the wheel brake assembly's
One thing that didn’t work was the so called cable ties which secure the brake piping along the back edge of the rear part of the suspension on each corner of the car
What was supplied was 1 mm plastic tape which you wrapped around the suspension part securing the pipework in the process what actualy happend was the tape didn’t stick which I suspected would be the case so I substituted red cord knotted and glued as you can see from the photos attached when it has set properly I will trim and paint the thread black to resemble the cable ties

Hello again here is the latest update on this build mostly assembling the seperate sections and joining them into the monocoque
One thing thats really annoyed me about this kit is the constant build a section only to have disassemble it 2 stages later to add more detail do this too many times and screws stop tightining as the threads they have cut into the plastic become worn and no longer grip
What makes more sense to me would be do that section in its entirety and done with it anyway it is what it is

I have a black display base which should contrast with the red and white colour scheme of the car and make it stand out this in turn will have a perspex cover on top of it to keep out the dust

Well the monocoque is finished and I have to say this is the first polictally correct model I have built as well
Let me explain during the era of this car tobaco sponsership was the trend and McLaren was Marlboro but like I said the model does not come with these decals intact what they have done is supply the wording in individual lettering for you to create the decals yourself if you wish this applies to the body panel as well
So onto the final deatiling for this section
1) Painted various parts of the engine to clean up and add more detail
2) Foil wrapped the brake pipe leads
3) Added a curly lead type wireless from the steering wheel
4) Additional red leads from the radiators
5) Marlboro sponsership decals added where needed
6) Added fod guards to radiators
Next will be the outer panels /bodywork

Colin

Hi Colin
That is a beautiful piece of modelling. The detail is superb. Really quite taken with these big scale cars.

This is it folks its finished all decals applied bodywork attached to monocoque overall a great model with a few niggly and sometimes bewildering way of doing things one thing I can say is that the waterslide decals are the best I have ever used hope you have enjoyed this journal its now back to the lancaster bomber

Hi Colin, first time I've seen one of these built. What a superbly detailed kit it is and what a great job you've made of it.
