Dulling down paint finish.

I have a 1:50 scale diecast bulldozer that I want to give a light weathering. I want to dull the paint finish a little to take the shine out of it.

Anyone have any tips?

Cheers. :smiling3:

Yes it will cover a gloss finish. A model is usually painted then gloss coated to apply decals and weathering, and then that is all sealed in using either another gloss coat or a flat/matt varnish. The varnish will work on gloss paint without the gloss varnish too.

Take a look at this thread Martin.

There are some interesting photos that can help you.

Martin if you want a really dull finish then Vallejo Matt finish.

It is duller than their matt finish paints which are dull.

For WW11 aircraft I have used this through out and gives a very authentic look. You only need one coat even if you have applied gloss varnish for decals.
