This is a 1:10th scale figure from Scale75, which they call 'Khalgrim Bust'. I've called it Grór, because that's the name of my character in a role-playing game (The One Ring) I've just started with some friends.

I'll be using true metallic metals (aided by Vince Venturella's timely recent YouTube video on making the most of metallics). He'll have a tattoo on his shaved head (ulp) and his hair will be flaxen, not red (a direct lift from Gavin Booth's version of this figure, again on YouTube).

I've already cleaned this up, but it needs just a little filling before I start on the paint.

Wish me luck.

Looks like a sculpt that will repay the painter…..hair and beards are always fun to do. Are you going to attempt freehand on the tattoos?

Not sure if you’ve noticed, but the beard braids on the figures right could do with a little more clean up. It’s probably not visible front on, but there are some seam lines and a ragged patch that a couple more minutes with a sharp blade will improve. If you leave them then they will probably become more prominent during painting. They show best in your first photo Paul.

Ah Tim, trust you! I've tidied up the worst of that seaming and rough stuff on his beard, but looking again I might have to have another bash.

I've just had a go at his eyes, following (roughly) the technique used by Musha here:
Not done the margins or where the lashes grow, but I'm reasonably pleased so far.

This is a completely different approach for me - I usually leave eyes alone to begin with, but it really does make sense to get stuck in at the start. If I really muck up now it's easy enough to strip or overpaint and start again without affecting surrounding paint.

Excellent work on the eyes! Quite arresting, almost Freman like.
As to the seam….I just didn’t want you to get to that part of the painting and have repeat it when you did the remedial work. I’ve had to do that and it’s soul destroying…..
Good luck with the tattoo…..something I’ve not tried yet.

Thanks Tim.

Freman?

And I appreciate your good intentions with that seam - I'm dealing with it, and you were right, it needs sorting.

Couple of basecoats of Vallejo Model Color brown sand. Still not dealt with the lower eyelids. And I may need to refine the sclera, although in the flesh (rather than magnified) they look pretty good.

Fremen, from the Dune books Paul.

Never been much of one for Star Wars or Star Trek, but have loved the Dune books since I first read them in my teens…..that was the first thing that came to mind….

Ah, I thought that might be what you were about. I've never been into sci-fi or fantasy fiction, but I recently saw the latest version of Dune and loved it, then read the first novel and loved that, too.

Here's the skin, in progress.

Here's how the shield is supposed to be mounted.

By turning it through 180 degrees it sits much higher. I prefer it this way, because of the offset framing of the face. So this is how it's going on. The inside of the shield will be very dark metallic, so it doesn't detract from the head.

Looking really good Paul, the raised shield with the dark inside brings out the detail on the head...good adjustment call there.
I wonder who does his hair/beard.
Vidal Sassoon? :tears-of-joy:

Cheers,
Richard

Superb - what scale is that? I can't do eyes yet - learning from you! :disappointed2:
Steve
1:10th scale. He's 70mm from the top of his head to the tip of his beard(s).
Eyes - lots of tutorials about, I particularly like Musha's -
Her's is the technique I tried this time. Although I do love the instruction on Mark Bennette's tutorial: "Tiny pupils will give the classic "nutter" look while too large will give it a "cute" look." Guess what I went for with this psycho?
