It's just a gloss acrylic varnish, not some wonderful panacea. Because it is/was marketed as a floor varnish it was relatively cheap. There are many alternatives.

It can be used on any model for sealing and protecting paintwork and providing a glossy, smooth surface for the application of decals. This helps prevent the dreaded silvering which renders the carrier film visible.

Perhaps its most startling effect is on clear parts, particularly aircraft canopies. A dip in Klear imparts a lovely glassy shine.

Cheers

The Complete Future

Everything you'll ever need to know in the link above. Future was the brand name outside the UK, Klear in the UK. New stuff in a white bottle called pledge multi surface wax with Klear or thereabouts. Available at most supermarkets, £4 ish a bottle.
