Hi Peeps, noob here.... Lol!
Now almost 60 (Gulp!) and recently retired, I fancied trying model making again.
Last time I made a model (Airfix) was when I was about 13, maybe 14, just before I discovered Girls?
I used to really enjoy it, started when I was about 8 I think, and I used to paint them too, although not that well, and it was mostly military planes, and vehicles, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Messi 109's, Heinkel's, Sherman, Cromwell, Willis Jeep, plus a few ships HMS Hood, HMS Fearless, and a few other things, figures, and a few bikes, Honda CB750, and cars, MK2 Escort, etc etc. So was a bit varied....Think I even did the Cutty Sark, with all that rigging, way back when?
Having watched a few YT vids and looked at a few forums, I settled on here to start me off, so hopefully will get some good advice.
I see that "weathering" is all the rage now and it seems like painting, etc is big part of model making now for realism, etc, which appeals to me.
I have started off buying a few bits, knifes, sanding strips, paint brushes, files, tweezers, glues, thinners and a selection of paints and pigments.
I have also already bought a few models, eg: pre Xmas Lidl and Aldi both had special offer small scale Airfix kits, £7 each, so I bought a few of them just to start me off and if I bodge it up, well I've not lost much money.
I have also bought a couple of serious kits, both Tamiya, as they seem to be recommended as good starter kits with decent detail and (relatively) easy to build. They are a 1/12th scale Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird and a German Half Track, 1/35th scale sdkfz. I will not move on to those until I have tried my hand at the smaller cheapo ones..... EDIT: Just noticed the half track is Revell not Tamiya... Oops!
I was a Plumber, then a Building Surveyor, so have been in the construction industry most of my life.
Other hobbies include Fishing, DIY, Driving/Motorbikes, Travel, Eating out, Lego/Meccano building, cycling, target shooting, online gaming (PC and consoles), reading, etc....
Anyway thats me, hope to contribute a bit when I can.... cheers
