30,000 working hours restoration in ruins: „it the super-Gau is smashes“ historic postwar airplane on flight field – pilot unharmed! Lover-original „Messerschmidt ME 109“ after breach landing totally date demolishes: Friday, 15 July

2005, ca. 16:15 clock place: airport Degerfeld in Albstadt, Zollern-Alb-circle, Baden-Württemberg

(Mwue/gs) sky and hell lie obviously very close together: a 69-year-old pilot of a historic over 50 years of old fighter plane intact escaped at the late Friday afternoon as well as through a miracle of a heavy breach landing totally, restored that in more than 30,000 man-hours loving Messerschmidt ME 109, an at least pan-Germany original, lies now however in ruins. As the hobby pilot to the landing on the airport Degerfeld (Zollern-Alb-Kreis, Baden-Württemberg) prepared, presumed itself he yet in security. Yet the landing failed, broke is that stern of the machine in the mounting from, that historic Messerschmidt ME 109 in split-second only a wreck. How through a miracle, the breach pilot remained was able to leave at the same time totally intact, he the machine independent. To the moment of the misfortune, intense activity, many hobby pilots ruled wetted the good flight weather on the flight terrain under free sky. Quickly they hurried the 69-year-old to the aid – and powerfully were eased that that with the frightening had come therefrom. Nevertheless large consternation ruled under the flyer friends. For that did not smash is Messerschmidt ME 109 any airplane. „That is the historic airplane simply“, explains Manfred Birk, chairperson of the local air sports club. It had concerned in the accident machine a single piece, lie might whose model at the beginning of the postwar period. „It is the super-Gau simply“, so the depressing explanation of the aviation friend that stands now before the ruins of more than 30,000 hours and/or 7 years of loving restoration working. The learned pilot returned remained on Friday of a practice flight, after the breach landing it nothing further to take than the wreck together with its flyer-friends apart, in order to rescue it. The police was with a large public notice and a helicopter on the spot in order to reconstruct the circumstances of the breach landing. „...Das was a historic hunt-airplane, nowadays einmalig..…Einzelstück, the war…..von yet flight capable in Germany four comrades out of the society in seven years and about 30,000 (!) Man-hour restores happened is worden…..die that now very successfully geflogen.....was today, is was the exception…. it natural that absolute super-Gau…. to the accident circumstances: airplane is come off in the landing of the track…. and at the same time to breach gone…. to the good fortune no persons damage…. pilot becomes however with security a sleepless night have…. however the large good fortune really totally unharmed…“

Wonwinglo adds-

...The Bf.109 was notorious for swinging on take off due to its very narrow undercarriage, the aircraft was designed for use on all grass airfields where it could be positioned exactly into wind, operation from runways where even the slightest amount of rudder has to be used could spell disaster,it looks reading from the above report that the aircraft reacted and swung badly on take off ripping out the engine from the firewall a non too uncommon event during wartime with in-experienced pilots being caught out, however then there were hundreds of Bf.109 aircraft to replace the damaged ones, not so today.
