Paul,I think your problem lies in that the originals are just too large,try placing them into a paint programme such as Paintshop pro etc,go to 'view' and click on to 'image resize' play around a bit with the section that says 'image resize' and 'pixel resize' then save them to a file and check the physical size by right clicking and then 'properties' you are going to loose a bit of quality but the image upload has a size limit and that is why it is rejecting to upload your pictures.

Give this a try and prepare and re-size your pictures before you upload and things should work out for you,you will get there dont give in ! there is plenty of help here to guide you through the process.
