Hello peeps , continuing on my recent theme of pointy silver things with red stars on , heres the PM models 1/72 scale Sukhoi su 15 'Flagon' . I got this for £4 at the newark expo in 2011 and finally got round to it recently. Its a VERY basic kit but with a few(actually QUITE a few!!) additions/modifications it gives a passable rendition of the classic soviet cold war interceptor . I had to make the AA3 missiles from scratch as the kit ones had very thick fins and the AA8 's and most of the decals came from the spares box. The undercarriage bays are still only about 1mm deep but if nobody turns it over it doesnt show!! (what do you want for 4 quid anyway!! ) Anyway i like it so here are the pics , comments/ criticisms/ observations welcome cheers tony:plane:

These Ruski cold war jets are pretty cool Tony. Keep em coming.

A great little build that looks very much the part.

5 red stars to the collection.

Beautiful!

I've no idea what it is but I wouldn't want it after me. It looks very efficient.

Cheers

Nice one Tony. I remember looking a grainy pictures of these when I was a kid and thought it looked an agressive looking fighter. This one looks just like I remember, less the grainy images.

Great work mate.

Tony.

That is nice Tony.

And your scratch work is your usual excellent standard.

Nice to see another russian Tony, what did you use for the NMF, looks very realistic. Superb 5 Star job as usual. Derek

***** work as always Tony. These Russian jets look so good I wonder why so few are done in larger scales.

Thanks everybody for the kind comments, its not perfect but it fills a little gap in my growing soviet cold war collection and like tony (mossiepilot) i remember seeing grainy out of focus photos and spurious colour profiles of warsaw pact aircraft in the old RAF yearbooks that i used to get at the Finningley airshow in the late 70's early 80's, and thinking "WOW! theyre so cool! i wish i could get a kit of them". The next in the pipeline is a 1/48 MiG 19 by H.I.P.M , again in NMF . Derek ,the silver was done with a silver Hycote aerosol , decanted and sprayed over a gloss black undercoat. Then i picked out various panels ,ailerons ,rudder etc. with various thinned games workshop silvers using a good old brush . Then Klear on top ,decals ,Klear etc. cheers tony

Thanks derek , i tried to make the different shaded panels quite subtle , too stark a contrast can look a bit fake, the only trouble is all these subtle differences dont really show up in the pics!! cheers tony

You've had a brush on this ? I couldn't tell - nice job. Early Russian aircraft always look a little 'chunky' to me - a strange thing to say about a fast jet, I know. But anyway, a great model Tony.

Always great to see a Ruskie and Flagon is one of the birds, I still have to build one day. But there's too many Flankers to finish first :D 5*

I'm not usally a fan of the Silver Soviets, but this looks the business - I have to keep checking it's 1/72 !! Is it me or does it have a touch of the Gerry Anderson's about it?

Cheers, Neil
