Good evening from Race Towers.
A better but cold day I spent much of yesterday putting those Friul tracks together. The drilling out part was fun, only drilled my finger once and that was enough not to do it again .
Started to put them together, decided to use the double sided tape method, all well and good, but you can imagine the fun with having limited depth of field. Getting the wire into the hole was fun looking back, no wonder it took me a total of 5 hrs just to put 3/4 of the track together. Twice when I did a fit it came apart where I had missed fitting a wire pin. Several times I actually went into the foam off cut which was supporting the tape, Oh well one is nearly done so the next should take less time.
Cut the wires before fitting, then realised there wouldn't be enough wire, thanks to a guy on U tube who just cut great oversized lengths. I had to use some thin wire on a couple of the first run so as not to run out. nSo now I fit the wire, then cut to size. every now and again I notice I'd gone straight through the link, ....... well that makes it easier for me, at least I know its in.
Fitted the rear wheel , just like a road wheel , very strange to me , but with that glued on I was able to gauge the length. The Friul front sprocket needed some cleaning up ,,,, and the locating hole on the body enlarging. CA here I suppose.
It was a this point I noticed I had a road wheel missing. I was really careful I thought to put all the wheels into a plastic cup. There is going to be a complete search of the work bench and floor tomorrow and a report made to Kremlin !!!
At The same time I noticed I had a suspension arm missing as well. Now these were all fitted, so somewhere on the bench as the model has not been anywhere else. With out more ado I scratched one from a piece of sprue, cut to length and sanded flat on the rear to give a better surface area it was glued on. The centre hole enlarged to take the over sized pin.
I give you a nearly completed track, but well worth the effort.
John.
