Hello fellow modelers
I found this picture to be interesting and was thinking of making a little dio of the scene for an upcoming build but cannot for the life of me figure out what type of tank this is?? I guess I’ve never seen any other photos of a German tank with a rear mounted fuel drum like this one.2530FEC1-5445-4AF3-B1F5-60D1BE32F06C.jpeg

Hi Joe

I'm not expert as I'm still learning but the rear of the one in the foreground and especially the one in the middle of the shot look like a Pz III.

It also looks like the one in the middle has the long barrelled 50mm gun, which would make it an Ausf J or maybe L but I'm really not an expert on the Pz III.

Hope that helps.

Hi Joe

Great idea for a dio mate. I'm fairly certain they are Panzer III Ausf L's. They belong to the 5th SS Panzer Division "Wiking". Look forward to seeing how it goes for you
Speak soon my friend

Paul and Dave, thank you ! Fish are quite happy, preparing for the singalong later. As for the bucket, right on the 2nd ! Just full of glycerine at the moment, with a very tight lid on it.

The middle one still has the hull side escape hatch which was dropped on the M. So J or L i would agree with Steve. Missed the 5th SS Wiking symbol, must clean me peepers lol

Me thinks the middle one is a J, just checked and the escape hatch was deleted on the L (d'oh), it does not appear to have spaced armour on the mantlet, first fitted to the L ?

the one closest to the camera I think is a L as it has the later engine deck hatches

Off for a lie down

Lol...well damnit someone had to be right and it sure wasn’t going to be me...thank you all for astute assistance on this... I figured it was either a PIII or possibly a PIV..but I knows the experts would weigh in

John don’t worry I’m not going to paint the P III Russian green
