The centre piece of something I have started. My interpretation of a Flak 37 88mm: Going to be part of a 'Berlin', last days sort of diorama, but no factual basis.
Thank you all. I am pretty happy with it so far...I hope the scenery can do it justice...my first attempt at a scratch built backdrop. Here is where we are with it so far...again completely fictitious, the walls aren't thick enough, the bricks too big etc etc, but if I can paint it up with realistic enough effects, I will be happy. The walls are foam board, with the brick lines indented with a pencil, hopefully deep enough to shop up after painting. Ceiling support beams are coffee stirrers, and the floorboards are some finely cut veneer. Building up some rubble with polystyrene coated and filled with Polyfiller, Will add more realistic rubble on top when the walls are attached to a base
Little trick I learned from Ron. When you're engraving brickwork into foam, make a shallow cut with a knife before using your pencil point. The cut allows the foam to spread and save it's new shape a little better so it holds the gap.
Small update, but taken me the best part of a day...a tiled kitchen floor, and an irregularly bricked road outside: The tiles look pretty misshapen from the photo...but I'm fairly sure they are more regular in real life....
Slowly building up the rubble piles. Also making a few additions for minor details inside. Where is the line between building some scenery, and building a dolls house??? If you recognise any of your techniques or ideas being used on the way...thank you very much! I have taken 100% of my inspiration from the various (amazing) builds shown on this forum!
Oh and the first figure arrived so getting him painted. I have been really torn with which figures to include...so there might be changes along the way.
I really can't decide if the Autumn Oak-leaf is any good or not...and the blown up version doesn't do him favours either...might start again on this one. Happy with the face though...as long as I don't see anyone else's work for a while and start making comparisons!
This morning's work after priming everything black last night. Have bricked/cobbled(?) the street outside, at tiled the worlds largest residential kitchen. The tiling is not particularly neat I realise, but will largely be hidden so I didn't put too much care into it. Thoughts welcome, as always.
Thanks Jason. The drain cover is made of scrap sprue...although see now that one of the bars has slipped. Will have to cover it with some debris! @rtfoe to thank for the inspiration on that addition though.
A 'productive' day and still a fair bit of minor tinkering to do, but the main bulk is done. Some weathering still needed on the buildings, and then to blend the model to the base...then a fair bit of work on the figures, most of which arrived this morning. If you spot anything that needs work, or doesn't look right, please pipe up! I have been staring at it for too long! Thanks for taking the time to look.
