Cheers Dave , the reason behind it was to make the barrel look shorter as the Germans new that long barrelled Sherman’s were a threat to German tanks and started to specifically target themBeautiful.
PS What's the reason for the white paint under the front of the barrel? If it's some sort of camo to hide the tank against the sky, I gotta tell you it won't work! The only place you can see it is lying on the ground underneath, and it's extremely likely that you would see or hear the rest of the tank - just before it runs over you!
