Airbrush size for bigger stuff!

Currently I have a Iwata TRN with a O.35 needle, and very happy am I!

However Arizona is a lot bigger than a 1/35 StuG, so the infamous question?

Is a airbrush with a bigger needle recommended, if so any ideas??

I use a 0.3mm for fine detail/small areas and have a cheap chinese brush that is 0.5mm for large surface coverage

Good idea, quite a lot of cheap 0.5 about, including trigger types

Bob , I had trouble with my Neo with a 3.5 needle . it kept blocking up. Bought a .5 fantastic I can spray both the model , booth and my self . Really thought its great, bit fierce for smaller stuff but with practice the air button can be mastered to give a light covering.

I have a bartsharp 0.5 trigger type with side mounted paint cup that can be changed for different sizes,came with two,not sure of the capacity but you can almost use the big one as an eggcup. Was about 35 quid

Those cheap airbrushes with a 0.5 nozzle are fine for covering large areas. Alan is spot on there.

Yep. I've got a Sparmax 0.4 and that can really throw the paint down.

Assume it’s a TRN1 with a 0.35 nozzle Bob. Can’t you just buy the spares to turn it into a 0.5 nozzle fitted TRN2? Then just push the air pressure up a bit and move further out.

The big paint cups hold quite a lot Bob, should be enough .

Sounds like you need a side or bottom feed brush then Bob. You’ll never see over a top feed one if it’s fitted with a huge cup

How do you paint a 1.2m hull with an airbrush?
One panel at a time.

Sparmax make very good economic airbrushes a 3 or 4 should do well.
Or a cheap bottom fed type with a paint jar.

As Ian said Sparmax are very economical, I got mine about 2 years ago and it cost me £56.50 (excluding the store discount).

Spares are also really cheap; 0.2 mm Iwata nozzle I had to replace cost £40, a Sparmax 0.3 mm needle and nozzle I bought to adapt it to give me a smaller option cost me £23 less the discount.

My old Badger150 does all with three different nozzle heads and needles. The suction feed let's you use a small cup or a large bottle. The bottle cap also fits Mr Color jars.
I have a gravity feed cheap Chinese brand for ultra fine spraying if needed.
0.5 onwards is the ticket to go with a large paint holder for large coverage.

I have an Anthem (next model up?) that can do the same, it just has a "universal" needle what ever that is but that can spray a 1mm line with ease (even if I can't) up to a 10cm swath (I can manage that one ).

I have two el cheapo 0.5mm a/b - I use for priming & basecoats on larger models - theyre a bit crude, but they spray very well, and for a single overall colour do the same job as much more expensive Branded items. I wouldn't expect fine lins, but who would with a 0.5 nozzle!

More effect than a larger needle is a spreader cap. It turns an airbrush into an air gun.

I use my Topnotch airbrush that way, a o.3 needle with a spreader cap. It works well for large areas.
