Outstanding model Nick. I love that she is a tad dirty, rusty, a model showing her life on the high seas prior to Pearl Harbour. Superb work, like this very much.

If I can of course, I’m by no means a ship guy though, this is my one and only plastic ship - still dabbling with a big wooden one though (like15 years after I started it!)

Stalled on the ‘string’ stage. I bought a great book ‘the masting and rigging of English Ships of War’ I’m not joking I had to look up 3 out of every 4 words on the first page and it’s like that all the way through, utter gibberish.

I keep coming back to it though. In fact I’m going to use my new CNC machine 4th axis for the masts and booms, the wooden ship guys will be appalled you’re supposed to do it with blood, spit and a sharpened pebble or something.

Yes this is the Caldercraft/Jokita kit, I can’t exactly remember what I paid for it but that sounds about right.

I can also relate to checking out before finishing the thing too. I really have to be in the mood to dust it off. It’s the repetitive nature that gets you like 96 similar but all subtly different gun doors each with blocks, string, hinges God knows what else to make and fit. I have to make a few then put it away again for another year!

Nick, that Arizona is really wonderful. :thumb2:
I think that a B/W pic, with some photoshop aging could be easily mistaken for a '30s original picture.
BTW, as a seasickness victim :dizzy:, I always felt for those who had to work in those "rooms" up the masts...

Wow, that’s not exactly a page turner is it…….I’d need a good glossary (or a captive Jack Aubrey) to get to grips with that lot.

The strangest thing is that back in the day there would have been literally hundreds of thousands of men around the world that would understand that stuff innately without being able to read a word.
