Following on from my military relics found while living in Cyprus, here are a few civilian vehicles dotted around the Island for the car fans.

Over the years the restrictive laws/legislation regarding large engined vehicles and lack of available spares, owners tended to abandon their vehicles when it became to difficult/expensive to repair.

Dumped in fields, sides of the road or just on the land they owned. This is a small proportion of what I found, maybe some will inspire someone to replicate in model form!

Wow! Cool and sad, both at the same time. A couple of these are kind of rare these days and I would love to see the Sunbeam nursed back to mint.

I agree with Daniel .... it's nice to see the old cars and sad at the same time that they're in disrepair.

That Morris traveller wants to come and live here with me, i'd look after it :smiling3:

After the 74 war the UN set up a Buffer Zone between the Cypriot side and the Turkish occupied side now known as the Green Line or Green Zone, or simply No Mans Land.

Civilians still live in this area on both sides of the border, and the district we lived in had a road that was sandwiched between the the two opposing forces.

I regularly used this road when going to the Joint Services Unit Camp at Ayios Nikolias, and there were vehicles dumped in woods/orchards and just in the fields all along this road.

Being an ex paint & body man I couldn't resist taking pics of some that were more accessible (safetly!)

I loved living over there, and I love the Cypriot people. So my next comments are not meant to be controversial!

The main problems to getting your hands on these is 1: The Cypriot mind set 2:The Cypriot Laws on (Relics) 3: Cypriot Taxation Laws.

1: Every time I found an owner of a vehicle/vehicles the asking price was invariably 10,000 Euro!

2: I restored a Ford Mexico that was found in a field for a friend on camp, when we took it to Akrotiri for him to fly home (courtesy of C130)

the Cypriot Antiquities/Heritage/Relics Department decided it was part Cypriot heritage and could not leave the Island. (we found away around it in the end) wink wink!

3: Any vehicle that was being returned to road-worthy use, was subject to back dated taxation to the date it was taken off the road. Based on the value (new) of the vehicle and per engine capacity (cc)

Unless of course you were Cypriot! :smile1:

Yep, seeing those "Jelly moulds" certainly jolted the old memory bank.............I've owned and driven the full range!...Sad or what?

There's even what looks like a "Puddle jumper"....My first ever car, bought from a scrap yard for a fiver way back in good ol' 65.

Thanks for posting the pictures Gregg.

Yes please, I would love a Moggie Traveller and/or a Moggie Pick-Up, the Maroon Zephyr, Black Zodiac and maybe a couple of the American vehicles...

Thank you so much for sharing these great memories Sir...

May I ask what you would call a "Puddle Jumper" please Ron, what I would call a "Puddle jumper" is a Landrover Lightweight, the ones that had the short front wings...

I'd make a guess it would be the white morris 1100, if it got wet it rotted and fell apart!

Hence it jumped the puddles!
