Hi Guys,
A friend has asked me to do a desert base for his 1/72 die-cast Hurricane after seeing the Spit that I did. So using the same astray base but a slightly larger one on its own without the platform I masked and proceeded with the plaster mixture of cement, fine sand and pebbles sprinkled randomly...

20221230_140949.jpgused the Hurri wheels to create track marks... and this is the die-cast Hurri on it.
20221230_141145.jpgWill add a figure or two with some oil drums and a crate with tools perhaps. I'll leave it overnight to set.

Cheers,
Wabe

Looking good, Richard.
John.
Great work on the wheel tracks
Thanks John and Neil, I'm trying to make a desert scene as interesting as possible with the terrain. As most airfields were as near enough for water supply, there would be little tufts of desert grass or shrubs. I'll try to give it more color if that's possible.
The die cast plane is quite simple looking and don't know if I should give it a light weathering to blend with the dio.

Cheers,
Wabble

Richard,
That's looking good mate.
Thanks Scottie, I've just done the tufts of grass with dabs of white glue and sprinkling of the flocking.
It looks like this initially...messy.

20221231_002309.jpg
Then tapping the excess off it becomes more sparse and tidy... wonder why people buy those after market grass tufts, it's so easy to make.

Again leaving it overnight till the glue has set then I'll spray the sand and grass as they won't be green...more like dull olive drab.

Cheers,

Hi guys, sprayed the base and highlighted with some washes and picked out the stones with varied shades of red brown and desert yellow mixed with white.

With the Hurri on it...

I've found a suitable figure with a pushing stance so I'll modify him to push an oil drum. Another is standing in his singlet and wiping the sweat of his head. Both will have to have their pants shaved off into shorts.
Lots of carving ahead.

Hi, here's the sprue from which I'll be using the figures on the left and right ends.

I don't think there will be much putty work. Finding suitable pushing arms will be hard so surgery is inevitable.

Base looks good. Modifying 1/72 figures must be incredibly fiddly. You seem to have the skills to do it though.

Nice progress Richard :thumb2: base is looking good

Thanks Scottie, Jim and Steven, fiddly they are and if only I could do magic and presto its done.
Anyway carved out the trousers to expose the legs. Will putty in the socks and gaiters.

20230105_002844.jpgnext to adjust the arms and ankles of the pushing figure.

Great stuff Richard, if i had tried that they would both be in wheelchairs by now.
TBH the standing guy ought to be in crutches...his left leg below the knee was accidentally amputated. :smiling6:

To help with his prosthesis I have applied putty and shaped them into socks and leggings. Also shaped shorts for the other guy. I suspect the standing guy may be poofy because if his stance. :tears-of-joy:

The putty leggings needs to be thinned down.
