Dim yellow light required.

Hi All,

First post, hope you can help.

My wife is building a stylised model of a gothic cathedral and needs to illuminate it from the inside, but to make it look authentic she would like it to have a dull yellow light rather than a bright white one.

In the past this would have been achieved by running an incandescent (tungsten) lamp through a dimmer switch- the dimmer the lamp the yellower the light. These days it is very difficult to get tungsten light bulbs.

Does anyone have any ideas on what type of lamp can produce a yellow glow? The lamp fitting can be a standard (UK) mains type or anything that would do the job.

TIA,

Neil

Not wishing to state the obvious, but what about a coloured lamp. I believe that if you go for an LED light you can get them in many colour tones. If not, being a cold light source you could also put a coloured film around the light.

One or two coloured gels (the type used in theatres / photo studios) wrapped loosely around a standard bulb should get the desired effect. Jessops sell them. Just don't let them make contact with the bulb, of course!

Neil. before giving an answer (hopefully) could you tell us what is the size of the model and how big is the area to be lit. Also what height of illumination you expect ?

A picture with sizes would be of great help.
