Honda road racer 1/8th scale

Dick Mann Daytona winner CR750 (the racing vertion of the CB750) made by MPC never heard of them bought from fleabay a while a go just because I remembered the name,
so time to stick it together ... not the same detail as my usual kits but there is plenty of room for improvement (hopefully) the chrome plating is everywhere unlike the actual bike but after stripping the first few bits looks like this might be a slow build its taken the last 3 day to strip the first parts soaked in a new batch of 50\50 bleach so the others might take a while to, most of the kit has been chromed but I will persevere
hoping to respoke the wheels on this one and remodel as per his original winning bike

Hi well a non productive night build wise anyway
so i was experimenting with spokes and came up with a new jig for the wheels based on the last one, if it ant broke…..new centre pins i can remove if these fit the next kit others planned are 1/9th so might be close.
then i made a small anvil out of a large penny washer drilled a 1mm hole in it on one side and counter sunk the other with a 2.5mm Idea is to push the spoke threw and hold it 1mm+ above the counter sunk hole and form a small dome head on it..* marks the csk‘ed hole, so I tried the first spoke 1mm @ 26mm long, formed a bit of a head and realised this would have been easier with brass rod not Stainless steel piano wire its hard to form but after a few taps it looked ok and so i bent it using the same anvil not quie 90‘ as its just a test piece then pushed the spoke all the way threw the hole turned out ok.

Cut a nipple and it looks ok when together.

Thats when I decided to count the spokes 40 each wheel….. wheel see how long this takes and if they sit in the hub with out using any glue. Once i start the build i will post some more pictures if it works
the rest of the kit is still soaking in bleach but it is nearly clean might have to scrape some bits na luck

No going back now… so i tried the formed nipple on the end of the spoke and it fits and works but very stiff to bend and lift over the hub on a real wheel you are left with play on the rim to move it left and right along with up and down but i cant do this with the scale wheel unless i put all the spokes in the hub first and then try to slip in to the nipples in the rim this is just not viable for now maybe at a later date if I had of used a brass rod or copper they would be a bit more flexible and form easier so for now i will go with the CA and slip them in to place.

Drilled, ready to clean up and rebuild

Hi, well started the rear wheel but due to the size of the hole i cut and centre pin diameter I used, I packed it out with 4 packers and wrapped the centre pin to achieve a snug fit not tight same with packers i also Cut and glued some pads on the bottom of the jig hole to lift the rim so it stays central to the hub..
first 3 spokes in place, the nipples i placed on the spoke then slid them ithrough the hole in the rim then located the spoke end in the hub and CA‘ed in place. The nipples i will slid in to position once i get them all in on both sizes

Next up date I hope will be this side finished fingers crossed

First side done nipples still loose discovered i can true it up once all the spokes are in an then i will start trimming the excess and setting the nipples to hold it in shape. (Hopefully round)


second side 9 left to go will try and get this one laced up tomorrow then start the front
