Most materials of the plastic family can be cut finely enough to need very little squaring or shaping, and the work that is necessary can be done with ordinary tools that most model makers have in their kit, small obtrusions can be scraped down to a surface level with a sharp chisel,it is important to remember that the word is 'scraped'.

Narrow metal planes are ideal for the final shaping but the cutting edge must be keen and finely set to avoid digging into the plastic material.

Perspex responds easily to the use of the plane and is the quickest way to deal with un-even edges, normally however, all the squaring and shaping can be done with files and abrasive papers.
