Peter I love the way you've set this out, the various ways and the tank cut like that.
Think it's very daring to attempt such a thing as that cut. Shows the thought and planning .
Had a read through as it escaped me the first time.
thanks for the support. Tomorrow I plan to finish the construction work on the base - yet more sandbags.
my 38 candidates have been chosen and my postal ballot form complete, ready to put in the post tomorrow. My wife and daughter have also chosen their 38. Apart from a few people who I know ( and either have voted for them, of definitely have not voted) the majoroty of candidates are unknown to us so it is a bit of a lottery as to who good they will be.
The actual election day is Wednesday to by the weekend we will know who will form our government for the next four years. A short-term, but important concern is whether the next government will relax our quarantine restrictions. i hope they do not.
Yesterday evening I added a few more sandbags and a few little details like some piles of sand which had poured out of broken bags. today I primed it.
i intend to leave it alone until next week, give me some time to come back to it with 'fresh eyes' before starting to paint it - and re-fixing the missing rails on the tank.
when it is painted i intend to cover the sides with walnut vaneer, it is dark and has an irregular pattern which I think suits the dio.
For the next couple of days it back to painting busts - a change is as good as a rest!
just noticed something which may be a tip for anybody interested in woodworking - the white plastic bottle is my pva woodworking glue - it's an old washing-up liquid bottle. I buy large bottles of glue and decant it into this one for normal use. The thin nozzle is just the right size for the majority of time I need to apply glue.
Hi Peter I’m a bit late to the party but I’m here now. Your diorama is taking shape nicely.
I like how you have replicated the torn sandbags with the sand spilling out. Looking forward to seeing more.
At the back of a cupboard in my worksjop I found a half empty can of Tamiya sand, simce I had it to hand, and the diorama is still in there i fave it a quick coat of sand as a base coat whihc is nearly sandbag colour, over this I have applied a couple of washes of burnt sienna artists oils to bring out some ov the shading. Long way to go, but it's a step forward.
a lot of time over the Christmas period has enabled me to finish the base. Painted using a mixture of acrylic and oil paints, with washes and dry brushing.
The sides of the base are covered with thin bur walnut wood veneer, I like the random effect of the grain.
i have started to add odd 'stuff' around the trenches - tools, a coffee grinder and jug, more may be added as it progresses.
The next job will be the figures, including converting one to be climbing the ladder.
All change here in Guernsey - its hailing at the moment, but the bigger news is that after over 7 months of no restrictions we are now in a full lock-down. Our government may not be perfect but they act fast: 4.30pm on Friday 4 new cases of Covid were confirmed with no link to inward travelers or existing cases so they must be some form of community seeding. By 9.00 am on Saturday all shops had been instructed to impliment social distancing and at midday on Saturday a full lockdown was introduced. Overnight another 20 cass have been confirmed but hopefully the fast action will limit the spread.
back to modelling; I have been busy working on the figures and will start painting the first which will be the converted figure of a soldier climbing out of the trench. Here are a few photos:
