Hi Benny, the 'PINK PANTHER' is a series IIA Land Rover, some III series and a few 90/110 Defenders, adapted for use for the SAS. They had larger fuel tanks plus various other bits and pieces, the reason they are pink is that they thought, at the time, 60's/70's is that this colour offered a better camouflage than greens or tans/beige.

It is to do with how the wavelength of light reflects and refracts in the warm air. At a distance the heat haze given off from the surface distorts the image so the light bouncing off from the object means that the Jeep takes longer to be identified. Also from the air you're more likely to not notice it as much as a tan block...well that was the thinking.

PS: I don't remember an exactly trick for this one....., just I painted with the pink color of Tamiya, but I mix with a little sand color.

I'ts difficult to find the perfect color for this Pinkie.

Ahhh...just play with the dust and have fun

You have another Pinkie on this same forum (military vehicles), and mine is on the dioramas threads (some place in the desert...) if you need to do just a look.

This color with the dust turns onto the best color camouflage in the desert.

Yep, 'pinkie' as you say was the name given by the guys. You know they even painted the tyre pink too on many of the Landy's so that there wasn't two black ovals travelling through the sand.
