Morning all - bit more done last night
finished shaping the cheeks - now about twice the original depth and a better profile
added the turret ring shot deflector bar thingy - made from two lengths of micro strip, curved and stuck back to back
the mounting tabs were CA'd to the side of the cheek as per photos, rather than on top as Tamiya have them
the cheek part was then textured with more of the red paste and a chunky weld seam added on the edges from VJ putty
just need to replicate it on the other side now....

Blimey Simon, I get up let cats out let cats back in and feed ,retire to smallest room with tablet start this one from the beginning, quick build my bottom ,mind I should have known better ,as always a master class even those of us not capable I'm sure find it fascinating, , you must have the patience of a zeppelin captain sailing into a head wind,I tend to lose it just box bashing ,please keep it coming, oh dear 30 plus minutes of elbows in knees seems to have caused pins and needles in both legs not the best place for this you could say I've been caught with my pants down Dave

Mike, I shall try and keep the technical jargon to a minimum for you
There has been a bit of progress on this one today
Broke out the new copper foil - nice stuff. Very thin so it cuts easily, but more rigid than pewter, so ideal for the track guards
Also finished off the curved bars and added the exhaust (cut from the hull during the modifications, assembled and then had the etch end piece added)
the curved bars sorted around the cheek parts and then the smaller segments added front and back on the hull top
exhaust added back on to the hull side - position based on reference photos that show it further to the rear than Tamiya had it
this left a hole in the hull side that had to be plugged before the track guards could be installed
track guards made from copper sheet with the edges bent in an etch bender
impressed pattern on the front ends made with a ball end embossing tool
looking a bit more tank like again

Nice work Si- that Copper sheet looks very satisfying to work with, and I can see the benefit of the embossing tool now. One of my favourite things on this, oddly enough, is the perfect (interrupted) circle of turret-ring shot-deflectors you have achieved
Steven / Al - thanks both. Al,the circle isn't actually circular - the front ends of the bars over the cheek parts are pulled in towards the hull so it is more egg shaped

I'm already exhausted just reading through all the scratchery...almost licked the screen too 'cos of the green stuff.
