When soldering retainers onto the end of undercarriages to hold the wheels in place do the following, firstly solder a back washer where the wheel meets the bend, now place the wheel into place, next place a piece of paper over the end of the wire, next goes the washer and finally a quick turn of fuse wire, put some flux on the end of the wire, warm up your large soldering iron, touch the tip with solder, allow to cool, remove the slither of paper that will allow sufficent gap for thw wheel to turn, clean off the flux with an old toothbrush dipped in soapy water.

When solderoing small plastic tailwheels etc wrap the wheel with damp tissue to avoid overheating the plastic etc.
