Spifire colours

Hello

I'm building a revell 1/48 MK 16 Spitfire

The colour schemr says that the pointy thing at the front, from which the four props stick out (what's that called please?) should be fiery red in colour. The picture on the front of the box shows it to be matt black, same as the props.

Could one of you experts please advise on what's correct?

I'd be most grateful.

Thanks

thats cos the box art is for the Canadian Air Force option, not the RAuxAF one

Honestly not sure post war I'm afraid. If the RAF one is red rather than black or Sky I imagine it might be painted in a flight colour (?)

The Canadian Spitfire XVI belonged to 421 Sqn RCAF which was part of 2 TAF (Tactical Airforce). From early 1945 all 2 TAF fighters carried black spinners and had their fuselage sky band deleted.(I should never say "all" as there was bound to be an exception somewhere)

The 612 Sqn RAuxAF Spitfire XVI was painted in a special scheme for the 1949 Cooper Air Race,it's believed that it's spinner was red.
