Type 42 Destroyer kit wanted

Can anyone recommend a good kit of a Type 42 Destroyer please? In particular, I would like to know whether it is a new or old mould.

There are several by Dragon.

I don't want to model the Type 44 because of its ugly tapered tower dominating and spoiling it.

Thanks.

Hi Steve, the Dragon Premium Edition is a re-tooled version with PE kit, it is for H.M.S York but has decals for the other ships in the class (batch 3). The H.M.S Sheffield (batch 1) is also done in a premier kit with PE and is the 30th anniversary edition of the Falklands conflict, this too is re-tooled IIRC.

This site also shows more about the type 42 and some good pictures for colouring etc. http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/rn/destroyers/type42/

Thanks. That's very helpful.

You say "but has decals for the other ships in the class (batch 3)."

I have located the Dragon kit of the Batch 1 version, but no sign of the Batch 3 kit version (which is a bigger ship). Do you have a web address for it please?

Thanks

This site is good as it gives a review of the kit: http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/hms/york/700-dr/dragon-review.html

Great info. Really pleased.

Could these two kits be described as "new mould? I ask because my 1/48 Spit was not and its detail was shallow and disappeared under paint.

IIRC they are re-moulds with greater definition of hull details. But not having the kit myself I wouldn't know, only know what a guy at the boat club told me.

That's why I put the links to the reviews so maybe you could get a better idea of what the kit looked liked before you try.
