Hello all!

Please enjoy the pics I took of U505 this week here in Chicago. Taken pics inside was not allowed so I got right up to its hull. These things were loud when thumped! I also threw in a shot of a Junkers buoyancy generator, periscope and a depth charge. I've been inspired being so close to this rare piece so I've already ordered a mine layer. Take care and I've got plenty others to show. Jeff

Outstanding pictures, thanks for sharing. Makes me realise how much detail is missing from mine.

U-505 is the type IX. Do they make model of the type IX?

Yes sir, they sell one but not sure of the quality:

IXB is the exact ship model and this company also makes a IXC as well. At the museum of science and industry gift shop, (Chicago, USA) they had the u505 model kit but it looked over priced and really bad.

I know! We should all write Paul Allen and see if he could fund the complete and total working restoration of her. Why not? He already owns all of Jimi Hendrix Woodstock guitar equipment, several 109's and 190's and now a full V2 rocket restoration. Man, must be nice to have money! That sub is in such great condition now, I'm sure she would sail!

Some very nice photo's there Jeff,

Thanks for sharing them, I am sure a few fellow sub modellers (or should I say Submariners !!) on here will be eternally grateful for the pics, very valuable resource material which is welcome on here anytime (so long as it doesn't cause any security problems like one or two previous threads, to be fair they had the right intent and I hope we can have the info/pics back again soon)

Regards......Mark

Superb shots and a great resource for builders. Don't forget as well that there is the U-534 in the UK at Wallasey, which has been controvertially cut up to allow every one access to be able to see the interior. She is also a type IX and I posted a number of picture of her in y gallery before she was cut up.

Simply breaks my heart, Richard. This sub allows walking tours inside-probably the most cool thing I ever experienced. No pictures allowed though. I even offered to clean and dust the interior-those gauges are filthy! Nice to come back to this site-its been a while!

505 IX-C Sub

I'm planning on building a 1/32 scale IX-C sub as the 505.

What is the story about the rear elevator supports? Were they broken then repaired with metal straps? Does anyone here have an extra Engel rudder/elevator support part which can be purchased? Even a damage one if you have one.
